Advice in advance
« on: November 06, 2012, 03:13:07 PM »
We have purchased a touring caravan  :lol2:

When the season starts next year we are hoping to use it almost every weekend (when possible), school hols etc.

Here is where the advice comes in...... How do I control Alex in a caravan?? :005:
Doors/awnings are going to be left open, (I have children) and he'll want to play too, Do I get one of those spiral lead holders or is there another device that is out there, to let him play but keep him controlled??

Also, where do they sleep? Pop up crate? End of bed? In the caravan, or in the awning? (I'm presuming caravan?)

Is there anyone out there that can offer great caravaning advice with a puppy???  :lol2:

Thanks again guys  ;)

When we go camping we use this stuff

You can usually get a package of plastic fencing & posts off ebay.

Not totally escape proof, but I find that the dogs tend to want to stay where I am - If I need to pop out for few minutes I use one of the spikes in the ground as a tether.  I also have some metal fencing that creates a pen - think its called a Savic Dog Park - these are quite expensive but you can get some cheaper alternatives, again on Ebay.

Just put in the "distance nearest" in the drop down box - sometimes you can get a good bargain.

I also take dog crates with me for times when you need them not to be under your feet.

Wouldn't leave the dogs in the awning in case they were taken

Thanks supergirl, that's impressive. I was thinking of using wind breaks.  Just concerns me that one of the kids leaves a gap when going in and out and he ends up running off.
He is fine on recall but there will be new distractions  :-\

we have one of those pens for his bed time,

I definitely think that the fencing like yours is a good first step  :D I may have to work on his "stay" command to help me along
