Best thing I have learned about recall is not to nag.  Only use the whistle/ dog's name/ recall command when you expect and are fully able to ensure compliance.  Don't use the dog's name constantly in the house either, as this is where the bad habits often first form.

Our trainer likened it to kids forever calling mum, mum, mum - after a while mum gets to ignore it  :shades:

Yesterday we took Sam to the ashridge estate in hertfordshire.we let him off in a large grassy field where we didn't have to worry about roads etc  .we were better prepared for him to come back with treats and were more relaxed as there were no cars near.he was really good and we were pleasantly surprised.despite there being lots of dogs and people he returned when called and seemed to love running and bouncing around  :D plus we saw several other cockers for him to say hello to which we always loom out for :shades:
