Today Ash arrives
« on: March 21, 2021, 06:18:01 AM »
Morning all
Well it’s 6am and I have been dozing since 2am, trying to stay in bed but the excitement has got too much  :005: picking Ash up at 9am  :luv: (she will be 8 weeks old at 6.30pm, so being allowed to collect her this morning)

I am like a kid at Christmas   :005: Not having a dog since we lost Rhum back in August having a puppy again is going to be fun.

Any words of wisdom welcome. I have swatted up on my puppy books.

Today we are just going to put her in the garden every 30 min or so and let her get used to her new surroundings - will put her blanket that she will come with in her crate and feed her in there too.

Hope to post a pic in the puppy board later

Thanks we have had a very busy morning

Collected Ash and then popped to collect some items for work from a colleague who told me I was not to come and collect them without Ash  :005: (luckily she was less that 5 minutes away from the breeder) then we drove home

Then Ash did her first Zoom call while exploring the garden :005:

Morning all and thank you

Still got to try and put a picture up (not that I have many  :005: ) @Andyb we were after a black girl, but ended up with a golden cockerdile  :005:

Well day 2 Ash was introduced to the remainder of down stairs,( day one was kitchen and hall to garden), her collar, which you would have thought she had fleas around her neck  :005: she went on her first lead walk (front garden only - which is our main garden and includes a paddock) she was only out for 5 minutes and all we did was walk and if the lead went taught I stopped until it was loose. (I am using the gun dog training part one)

Day 3 - well Ash decided to introduce herself to upstairs this morning  :shades: (she got up first 2 steps and then was carried up, wasn’t going to introduce her to upstairs yet but she had other ideas  :005:) so the stair gate is now in use again  ;)

Plans for today are to get her out in the car again but this time in her crate in the boot and also a little walk (Ash being carried) to see horses and cows - all this will be a max of 20 minutes

Tomorrow we will do another session of lead walking in the garden and then be carried to watch some cars, lorries and tractors going past

Trying not to introduce her to too much each day but the window of socialisation is so small

Yes all of this on top of toilet training and learning “sit”

Day 2 she already seems more confident and this morning (day 3) she was lying in her crate when I came down, not sure what time she was last out for toilet before I got down (possibly 3am, as I have my youngest at home due to Covid-19, who’s in their early 20s, so they would have put her out around 12am and then before they went to bed. Youngest is stricter with dog training than we were with our last one) Ash was put to bed at 10pm and settled a lot better.

Sounds like a model book routine, well done! I SO wish I‘d started that sort of lead training from day 1, I‘m sure it‘ll make a huge difference and will save a lot of hard work in the long run.
Looking forward to the pictures (the big advantage of having the kids at home is that the tech problems can usually be sorted !!  ;) :005: )

Think I have learnt from my last cocker re lead walking and I never read the gun dog training books until she was nearly a year old, so this time I intend to do more training early on but not too much too fast - my main aim at the moment is to get her socialised as best as I can in this pandemic.

I have a small back garden which we let her have free run off (which is totally secure, so can let her out to toilet) our front garden is massive and not cocker secure (as in total fencing) so am using this as a training area (lead walking etc.)

Ash you are a little superstar  :luv:

Ooo I am not sure about that, we have instilled a bad habit already   ph34r :shades: She wants up on the kitchen settee to go to sleep  :o too much cuddling and letting her for the first couple of days

She's not happy this morning as she is now tired and wanted the settee and I have put her in her crate, after a little whining she eventually settled down - then hubby walked in and she got up whined and as he didn't look or make eye contact she has curled back up and gone to sleep - just need to keep this up now

Well today's plans are a bit of lead work, naps in the crate and continuing the 'Sit' command - no issues with the 'sit' she is very good at sitting it's more teaching her the word association to do it on command

Ooo tonight she will be on another zoom call  :005: so she will be introduced coo'd over etc and then I will remove her so the call can continue without her (I am not on this call this is hubby's call)

I stand by my original statement, Ash you are a little superstar  :luv: on to the kitchen settee already  :clapping:
I would love Ash on my zoom calls, work is very boring and a puppy would make it so much better  :D

:rofl1: :rofl1: I am off work on annual leave, but have logged on to have calls with some colleagues with Ash  :005:

I have the old kitchen settee in the study, it is a bit lower than the new one in the kitchen and madam managed to get on that one so guess when I go back to work that maybe her new sleeping place   :shades: (all my dogs were allowed on the kitchen settee, but not on the one in the lounge and that worked fine )

Awwww a golden girl how lovely!
You sound like you are doing really well and very organised!!!!!Well done!
Well we brought our baby Buddy boy home last Friday. Surprised the boys which was amazing if a little overwhelming for our youngest who has been on and on about a puppy and I think was ready to give up. We had to come to the decision ourselves so once made and timing was right and fact found litter quickly thought we’d surprise them🤣
So far so good...he’s a lack with little white chest and bits on paws.
We were going for chocolate boy but swapped 😱.
Still little black girl left who is adorable too. Was almost tempted to take both....
