The Sire is Black and tan, with a small white patch on his chest, and the Dam is more of a Blue Roan with Tan.

I'm almost certain the white blaze is a mismark in solid show type colours, if the blazes weren't there I would say the top one is black and tan and the bottom one is gold, adorable though  :D .

Yes they are mis marked solids, not sure why people mate solids to parti's when you get that kind of combination as they are not recognized colours   at leats with solid to solid or parti to parti you know what colours your getting.

ahh, but not always, Daisy's parents are both B&T, and look at her! Mind you, Anne Webster told me that B&T to B&T isnt a good idea, as theyre both recessive. I think its fascinating, all this sort of thing, if you know what you're doing.

I expect there is particolour breeding in your dog's background though which is why the white blaze has come through :)

to be honest, I think there is probably mixed breeding way back in most of the dogs we see today. People are more informed about genetics and colour, so they know more about why things happen, and can breed selectivly.

If I'm taliking b****cks, please someone put me out of my misery! :o

You're right - when the breed was being developed, there was no separation of colours but since the breed standard does exclude white markings on solid dogs (except on the chest), most show-type breeders do selectively breed so as not to get mismarkings & have done so for a number of decades now. When mismarkings do show up, it generally indicates mixed colour matings quite recently rather than far back in the pedigree.

I saw a Cocker last week which appeared to be almost white, with the smallest fleck of light tan around its nose.

I have never seen this before - would this be classed as a lemon or something else?

<_< I have read that solid coloured dogs sometimes have white marks of varying size on the muzzles and/or toes. it sometimes disappears as the pup gets older. they should not be unduly penalised in the ring except as a final deciding factor between two equally good dogs.

As far as I know, the only white allowed on a solid show type is on the chest and the patch should be no wider than a 50p piece.
