« on: February 15, 2008, 03:38:43 PM »
i've just been lokking at sams kennel club registration, after his name he has (AH2) his sire has (AD2) his dam (AB2) does anyone know what these letters mean.

under health screening is shows his dam is unaffected by GPRA, CPRA. can someone tell me what these means and what test took place to get the results. his sire was not tested at all :-\

hi sammy

the (ah2),ab2),ad2). just means what breed record supplement book they appear in, year ect)

gpra -means generalised progressive retinal athrophy

cpra- means central progressive retinal athrophy

the test is done at a specialist eye clinic under the bva/ kennel club eye scheme( its the bear min really) , they put some dye in the eye, and look at the eye under a magnifing class thing.

The letters AH2, AD2 etc just refer to the edition of the Kennel Club Breed Record Supplement where details of that particular dog's registration can be found (the BRS is published quarterly and contains details of all breed registrations by group ie Toys, Gundogs etc)

If Sam's dam is unaffected by GPRA (General Progressive Retinal Atrophy) & CPRA (Central Progressive Retinal Atrophy), it means she was eye tested under the KC/BVA scheme on the date recorded on the certificate. As it doesn't mention G for Glaucoma, she wasn't tested for this condition and just had the basic eye test. The basic clinical eye test is just an examination by an opthalmologist which tells you whether the dog being tested is affected by GPRA or CPRA at the time of the test - it doesn't tell you whether that dog will develop those conditions later in life or if he/she might be a carrier.

HTH :D

Sorry to Hijack the thread Sammy, but just wondered whether any tests done under the Optigen scheme show on their certificates, if done?
