Title: Breed specific grooming course at Hadlow College, Kent
Post by: dizzytrish on January 27, 2012, 11:39:24 AM
Hi

I have finally got some answers out of the college for this course.
they have reduced the cost to £40.00 for the day course, and are advertising three different days on the website.
they have confirmed you take your own dog, and agree on how you want them to look, you will then be taught how to groom to your requirements.
they suggested taking a camera and notebook for before and after photos, and comments, but apart from that, nothing else is needed.
just wondered if anyone would be interested,
I am just waiting for it to be bought for me as a birthday present!

I'm booked on already. 26th June. I need to look up if they will cover handstripping though and if I can take both dogs   Really looking forward to it.

totally unrelated but that would be a great present (I want to find myself one locally :))

I searched for a course locally and it brought up this course (it's quite local at 325 miles away!)

Fair point! Will double check, but thought I'd focus on Darcey but get some advice on Bingley. Think their coats are v diff.

I am gutted it cost me £120 in July 2010  >:D It was an excellent course though and gave me a good grounding in the basics. I took Ebony who was a real fluff monster and they taught me to handstrip, but it was an all day job!!

This is the thread I post after I'd been on it.

I had been looking at the course after speaking with you on a meet, but couldn't commit to the £120. ph34r

now this one has come up, I am having it as a birthday present, but on the proviso I 'have a go' at Jack, my sisters working cocker! :D

so paid for and practice dog to go with it!! :D

Took a week or 2 I think. They called and I paid by credit card over the phone. Are you doing the same day as me?

Couldn't work out if it would be best to buy equipment and learn how to use it or get advice on what to buy  thought the clippers worked put v expensive if I'm mainly handstripping, maybe they'll show me how to use scissors. Have butchered Bingleys feet today, my grooming skills couldn't get any worse!!!

Look forward to meeting you all  :D Mollie too will be a challenge  especially her feet  ph34r They say will only need to take our dogs no equipment, is that correct ? Iam taking my camera fora before. And after picky

hopefully they will cover all three! :shades:

I got my clippers from Crufts, it was the one thing I decided on, I have a 7f and 10blades, and a set of combs, but they have only been used once, by a mate!. I am too scared of having a go without really knowing what to do where! ph34r

I'm taking the lot!! and must charge the camera, thanks for reminding me!!

:dunno: Has anyone received any more info other than the "you've paid and are on the course" letter?

I know it starts at 9am, am assuming I just turn up at the main reception?

Am I supposed to bring anything other than Freya and my mum (who is gonna laugh all the way at my rubbishness?!!!

ph34r Must admit Im getting quite excited!!

I have just had the letter also, no other info.

planning on taking all my grooming gear  ph34r - I don't see the point learning on their stuff whern I have my own

I will read what little bumpf ??I have beens ent but thought about just feeding Ella a small amount, then using the rest of her brekkie as treats?, not sure about lunch either! I know there is a nice chippy and pub in the village, but not sure how far away the grooming place is now?, do we head down the side of the restaurant, and not into the main complex?

Just called the college, turn next to the Spice Lounge restaurant and follow the one way system into the grooming centre on campus.

if you are coming from Tunbridge side then it will be on your left before the main site, if out of Hadlow then you pass the campus on the right follow round the bend and turn right next to the restaurant :D

I thought I read somewhere it finished at 4  :dunno: I am being dropped off so I hope that is right  I
did ring the college about what to bring and was told only my dog  :-\ , I don't have much equipment of my own yet but will bring what I have just in case  ;) as far as lunch is concerned I was going to bring sandwiches as I will have no where to leave Mollie whilst I go into a restaurant or pub.....what do you all think ?  :shades: I'm feeling very nervous  :embarassed:
Title: Re: Breed specific grooming course at Hadlow College, Kent
Post by: karen488 on June 29, 2012, 07:10:43 PM
She said that it finished at 4 unless you finish your dog earlier. I'm taking both of them as I want to learn to clip Darcey a bit but handstrip Bingley more. Ambitious!
Title: Re: Breed specific grooming course at Hadlow College, Kent
Post by: Goggins on June 29, 2012, 07:38:44 PM
ph34r do you think the doors stay open until you finish your dog?

Thanks for the added info everyone...very helpful on how to find the place, I wouldve turned up at main reception then got into one major panic!!

Ive told Freya she is off out for the day to go and find a nice rabbit.

All I want is to groom her into something that doesnt resemble a yeti wearing Ugg boots -anything other than how she looks now will be a huge bonus!!  :005:

so, here is Ella before the course, I really hope they can do 'something' with me and her!

her back is all wavy and goes into ringlets down her back legs, her fur is dead feeling and no moisture?, her legs where they shved her are all thick and wooly and I have had to resist the urge to get the thinners on her! ph34r

so here is the after, but she didnt want to stand still!

Nice to see everyone. Thought everyone did a great job. Feel I need to do a bit more to Bingley before I post an after pic. The kids hardly noticed, "his ears look longer" ??  Can't believe how much fluff I've taken out and he doesn't look more different ???

Hiya, nice to see you all again, and meet some new faces!

Janet said the same about the handstripping, but unless you have a complete transformation like Ella, then it doesnt show as much, just looks more natural! not sure you made the ears grow though, maybe all the pulling :005:

will sort out some pics when I can!

I have added the 'after' photo on the other post, she is definately different now :luv:
I have found a couple of bits not quite finished, and longer bits! :005: and realised I hadn't touched her back feet ph34r
Karen, I think when you look at the before pic, Bingley now looks sleeker and not as fluffy, :luv: and Darcy was so good just waiting around :luv:

I think all the woofets did brill, just have to practise and remember it willl all grow back! :D

What a great day yesterday  :D twas lovely to meet you all.....and wearn't the dogs good
I was pleased to learn how to hand strip and to use the thinners , i did feel because Dave had so many people to help that i didn't get much help with the finishing off  it was all a bit rushed ,but there again what do i expect for £40  :shades: worth every penny  ;)
I shall now order my equipment and get practising. Not sure wether to post before and after pics as she doesn't look that different despite the amount of hair on the floor  :005:

I had another go at Ella, and decided to put the clippers away, as I seem to be making more lines in her.
Think I will let the fur grow abit more, and then go over her. Have had to buy a grooming arm to keep her still!!

did anyone find out how to do the back feet? ph34r, didnt get as far as there!!

Am doing paws for me. Am having the entire foot because mine are prone to mats and blending in with thinning scissors.
