Indy's been to the groomers.
I don't know if I love it or hate it. :-\
Still in shock! :o
Daren't post piccie.
Need time to get my head round it.
Bottle of wine here I come.
-
come on now a piccie pleeeeeeeeese? we've probably all been there......... ph34r
-
Oh go on, post piccies, promise we won't laugh. Is it her first trip to the groomers? I'm sure you'll get used to it, it doesn't take long to grow. Harvey's a blue roan and he has to be trimmed every eight weeks.
-
I think the Zinfendel may be working, thank god for wine, she doesn't look too bad now.
I think I'm getting used to it, or maybe it's because I haven't put the light on.
This was her first trip to the groomers, OH words of wisdom, 'the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is about 3 weeks'.
I think I'll get the camera out, at least when I re-read this I'll know she looks OK through beer goggles. ;)
-
Well as it's Christmas eve I guess quite a few will have had a tipple and so they won't be able to see straight anyway - piccies please - it can't be that bad - just different! ;)
-
Oh dear, and this is the reason I won't let a groomer do anything other than bath and dry one of my dogs :005:.... I am sure you will get used to it even without the vino in next to no time ph34r
-
Well let's see the pictures and then we can tell you it's not nearly as bad as you think ;) .
-
Im sure she doesnt look that bad!
-
i think you need to *share* your pain :005: ;) it's very therapeutic so please post the pics....pleeeeease
:D
-
Go on and post a piccie - it can't be any worse than Vegas and Dallas's last trip to the groomers - everyone can vouch for that ;)
-
it can't be any worse than Vegas and Dallas's last trip to the groomers - everyone can vouch for that ;)
Not unless she's had a full body wax! :005:
(Sorry Gill. ph34r )

Sorry Gill ph34r

Stll waiting for piccies.

Come on Sue. Before and after pics pretty please  . You cant start a thread like this and not let us see the damage :005:
-
Come on Sue. Before and after pics pretty please  . You cant start a thread like this and not let us see the damage :005:
She must be waiting for it to grow back a bit before she shows us :005:
-
yeah com'on show us the pic's, surely it can't be that bad, and even if it is, it grows back so quickly. We really would like to see what Indy looks like.
-
Well christmas is over, the prezzies have been opened and I finally managed to get some pics of Indy's new look.
You're probably going to think I over-reacted, but the contrast between the shaved back and the feathering was a massive shock, plus she was a big puppy puffball before.
It's dawned on me that she reminds me of my friends standard poodle, she's still got her topknot and a bobbly tail just like the poodles!
Well, here goes.
Before - My hairy beastie.
After - Too embarrassed to stand for a photo.
Looking totally fed up.
A bit happier after mauling prezzies.
At least her roan markings are showing now, but she's still very dark.
On the plus side, the fur on her back's like velvet so she's getting loads of extra back rubs which she loves. :luv:
-
It does take time to get used to a new trim - I think she looks great though.* :shades:
*Apart from the Marj Simpson beehive. ph34r :005:
-
She looks lovely  Nothing like what I was imagining, I thought she'd look really bad :005:
In a couple of days you'll be used to it ;)
-
*Apart from the Marj Simpson beehive. ph34r :005:
How VERY dare you!
I love her topknot!
:005: :005: :005:
-
It could have been a lot worse. Not like poor Vegas and Dallas (sorry Gill). She looks really glossy and her ears and feathers look fine. Why did they not relieve her of her topknot? :-\
-
;) Certainly not as bad as I expected from your description, :-\ I would have expected her head to have been done though. I see what you mean about 'poodle' ::)
-
I think she looks lovely and her topnot is cute. :luv:
-

When we got home I had a look back through grooming threads and saw the pics of Vegas & Dallas and realised it wasn't as bad as I thought, (sorry Gill too), it's just such a massive change, I asked them not to take a lot off her head, (visions of Vegas & Dallas again), which they didn't, but it's a lot tidier than it was.
Poodle perm springs to mind. :005:
-
I think she looks lovely, apart form the top of her head? Why did she leave it like that?
-
What can I say - I think you should change groomers ph34r that is one of the most awful haircuts I've ever seen - whoever did that should not be working as a professional groomer :o it will grow back, and I'd suggest you learn how to do it yourself - it really isn't that hard once you get used to it ....
-
She looks lovely - even better with maybe just little more off the head :shades:....she's got super markings.........
-
What did you ask your groomer to do??
-
I agree with the others she looks lovely but would get rid of the beehive as it looks rather :005: , sorry
-
I don't think she looks that bad. Certainly not one of the worst haircuts I have seen :-\ I still think Dallas and Vegas should hold that title ph34r :005:
I would have wanted her head trimmed a bit more though :-\
-
aww bless her :D ... like others have said, would take a bit off her head to blend in with her shorter look ;)..but she looks lovely :luv:
-
I don't think it's too bad, depends what you asked for in the 1st place though.
What is it with the topknots though? I hate them ;)
-
Mom said she looks like a poodle with the topknot  ph34r
-
What were you worrying about? The last photos especially she looks lovely. Although have to say I'm really not sure about the head. I thought it was the hair that had been trimmed had been balanced on her head ph34r
-
I have to agree, it all looks good until you get to the head then. It looks like it doesn't fit in with the rest of her now. She is still very cute and huggy looking. ;)
-
Although have to say I'm really not sure about the head. I thought it was the hair that had been trimmed had been balanced on her head ph34r
:005: :005: :005: :005: :005: :005:
-
It looks like a split decision, some think she looks OK, some thinks she looks awful.
Personally, I'm over the shock and have got used to it, but I definately won't be taking her there again, by the way, if you knew what I'd paid you'd be outraged.
I think that was one of the problems, I expected much more for my money, never mind, you live and learn. ph34r
-
never mind, you live and learn. ph34r
exactly, and it will grow back...maybe someone on COL knows a better groomer in your area ?
-
Sue - now that Indy's hair is so short you have a good basis to learn how to trim her yourself, should you wish. Many of us COlers have learnt how to do it over the years - whilst we might not be upto doing a proper show trim we can still achieve a reasonably presentable pet finish that is better than the one your groomer did ( more natural than the clippers). All the info is on the grooming section. A coat king, a pair of thinners and some straight edged scissors would be enough to get you started - plus a slicker brush if you don't already have one. In the long run you'd save yourself a lot of money and may even come to enjoy doing it.
The beehive would be a good place to start ( I think opinion was unanimous on that - a big thumbs down  ) - put on some rubber gloves and get tugging away. Trust me, once you see a nice sleak domed Cocker head ( one of their best features ) you won't miss the topknot at all - if you do, it will always grow back. I was reluctant to remove Jimmy's topknot and didn't give in until he was 20 months old - I soon saw the errror of my ways and wondered whatever I'd been thinking in letting him go round looking like a big haired freak.
-
yep the beehive must go sorry :shades: :005:
-
wondered whatever I'd been thinking in letting him go round looking like a big haired freak.

Oh fer goodness sakes!- Hamish's haircut was the worst ever, and by god he's had some worse since, by me!- It ain't dog abuse, it's a HAIRCUT, it grows back people ;) :005:
And Hamish has anothr paw cyst and shall be paw shaved tomorrow - phone cockerline!
-
do not let lisa(silkstocking) see her topnot.she'll be round your house with the scissors before you know it :005:
i think she looks lovely but the topknot needs to go :luv:
-

yes but the point was that this was supposed to be a good haircut !!! we all know it grows back ;)
sorry to hear Hamish has had another cyst...
-
:005: :005: That topknot is freaky!!! Looking at the first picture, I thought the angle was funny and that was fur from her backend. The rest of the pics don't look too bad. If they used clippers, how come there are straggly hairs coming from her paws though?
-
OK OK OK
Enough already!
Take a look at this face and tell me she's not gorgeous, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese! Then maybe I can stop hiding her and take her out in the daylight again.
Don't worry Indy, Mummy loves you still.

-
She has got quite simply the most gorgeous face so you stop worrying, I know I said her head didn't match the rest of her but both bits are still gorgepous. big :-* to the Gorgeous Indie. ;)
-
She is Adorable, Don't worry, you can always pop a hat on her. :005: :005:
-
Yep - you're right - absolutely gorgeous :luv:
But Colin is definitely on to something with his Marge Simpson analogy ph34r :005: ;)
-
but Colin is definitely on to something with his Marge Simpson analogy ph34r :005: ;)
I've said it before and I'll say it again, how very dare you!
:005: :005: :005:
-
She is gorgeous, and with a good haircut she will reach her full potential of gorgeousness :luv: :005: now get yourself some thinning scissors and tackle that tuft ;)
-
I think she is gorgeous, but sorry I have to agree with everyone else. The topknot HAS to go. Let her show off her beautifully shaped, smooth, domed pedigree cocker head and no one will then make the mistake of thinking she's a poodle. Use thinning scissors- go on you know you can do it.
-
She is Adorable, Don't worry, you can always pop a hat on her. :005: :005:
One of those little knitted things old ladies use to cover their spare toilet rolls would probably do the trick.
Sorry Sue - it's really unfair of us all to keep harrassing you about the topknot - she's your dog so it's up to you how you have her trimmed. ;) I'll make one final attmept to win you over from the darkside of Topknot Insanity though...
Before...

After...
If you prefer the "before" photo then I think you are a lost cause when it comes to topknots.
-
Jimmy looks like he's got a halo in the first photo.
He is very handsome. :luv: Especially with a smooth head. ;)
-
Jimmy looks like he's got a halo in the first photo.
I was going to say the same thing :005: I love it, it's like one of those feathery headpieces you see people wearing to weddings :shades:
-
Right.......................
I think St. Jimmy's done it.
I will attempt to sort out the topknot, however, if she ends up looking like a monk with a basin cut I'm holding you lot responsible! ;)
I wonder if they make miniture beeny hats?
-
Now believe it or not Sue I'm in the pro-topknot group - just not Marge Simpson style
Nor come to that Jimmy's Rod Stewart phase ;) :005: :005:
Take a look at these

As you can see we do topknots in a big way :shades: But even Daisy had to have a haircut after that second pic - that was just taking topknots tooooooooooooo far ph34r :luv:
-
ok i'm driven to comment.....being the owner of a now only very slightly tufty boy it would be really hypercritical of me to say remove indie's (who by the way is gorgeous :luv:) topknot.... ph34r
but......
it really is a bit bouffant...maybe a small trim at a time, just to thin it out a bit
-
Right.......................
I think St. Jimmy's done it.
I will attempt to sort out the topknot
Result !
St Jimmy would now like to turn your attention towards the unsightly facial hair - those whiskers have gotta go too.

Poor St. Jimmy - fancy having you for a Dad - as if any of us would do anything to make our pooches look foolish. :shades:
But, no, no, no, no - absolutely no - the whiskers will not go. >:D
Even at the risk of massive ridicule and harassment, they will remain.
Indy's whiskers are ace - they're the most mental ones I've ever seen and I love them, I know I'm leaving myself open to comments about flippers and fish - bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ph34r

I hadn't noticed her whiskers, but now you have mentioned them -I suppose a topknotless head might accentuate her 'sealiness' a little more -especially when swimming :-\ :luv: ;) .
Sorry Sue - it's really unfair of us all to keep harrassing you about the topknot - she's your dog so it's up to you how you have her trimmed. ;)
True. :D .
-
... as long as there are no sideburns ph34r cos they are almost as bad as a topknot :o
-
It could be worse - she could have been a HE :005:
-
and sue, check out sarahp's daisy's whiskers in the picture above :005:
Only her Aunty Helen could get away with saying something like that >:D
But mental whiskers HAVE to stay :luv:

Don't cut the whiskers!!! >:D
Tilly's are growing back and even though they're now at a sort of spiky stubbly stage she still looks better than she did without them :luv:
-
But, no, no, no, no - absolutely no - the whiskers will not go. >:D
 I suspected I'd be on to a loser with that suggestion - should have quit while I was ahead. Good luck with trimming the topknot - I'm sure Indy will look even more gorgeous than she does already. I look forward to seeing the 'after' photos. :shades:
-
I would never trim whiskers off - they use them.... tisn't as if they use a topknot for anything is it, apart from maybe a cushion if they are doing a headstand
-
. tisn't as if they use a topknot for anything is it
they do they do they do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They use 'em for looking gorgeous and covering funny shaped heads - well Daisy does anyway ;)

 I once read this on a list of doggie Do's and Don'ts ...
"DON'T trim your dog's whiskers. Dogs use their whiskers to determine the size of their head, which is important when they are out shopping for a new hat."
But as my dogs don't have topknots they don't need hats, so they don't need whiskers either.
-

What for? Billy's groomer trims his right off. I've heard of cats using them but not dogs :D

Just caught up with this thread and I agree with the people that say the top knot has to go.
Sam gets a top knot and looks so much better without it but it does make them look rather seal like with the whiskers, they are soooo cute.
On the subject of facial hair, the last time we went to the groomers I liked Sam's haircut very much but they did do something completely unforgivable.....they cut his eye lashes :o :o :o
-
Haven't you ever seen a dog using their whiskers - I shall have to get a video of Lola using hers. If I put my hand towards her mouth, all her whiskers move towards my hand...they "feel" with them, like cats do.... you shouldn't cut them off tsk tsk. And just to prove I'm right, in case anyone was doubting me :005:

If I thought the whiskers served much of purpose I wouldn't trim them - can't say I think those links put forward a very convincing case though. For cats maybe but not dogs.
Has anyone ever seen a dog not carry on putting it's head into a tight space because their whiskers touch the sides ? I haven't - they tend to just keep on pushing and pushing. Only one of my dogs has ever got their head stuck anywhere - Misty when her ball rolled through some narrow railings. She had really long whiskers back then - if she got any messages from them she paid absolutely no attention. If anything brushes past our hair we react - doesn't stop us getting haircuts - dogs react too if you touch their hair endings - doesn't stop us chopping off their topknots. I don't think it plays any significant part in sense or scenting either - their noses, jowlels and wafting ears are what they rely on. Lack of whiskers has never stopped my 3 sniffing out fox poo, KFC bones and piles of vomit from a mile off.
Dogs whiskers - as much use as a one legged man at an ar*e kicking contest.

Have to agree with you there, if they all paid attention to their whiskers any dog with a 'claire bowl' wouldn't eat. Could you imagine a cocker not eating? I did wonder if they would feel anything when they had them trimmed but I have been told it doesn't hurt. It never stopped Harvey sticking his head through the cat flap either.
-
topknots and whiskers aren't seen ere  ...can't stand either, both should only be seen on rather cute puppies :luv: :luv: :005:
-
I worried when I had Maudie done before xmas they look so different but ive got used to it! I did ask for her tuft to be thinned tho.

My groomer clips my two's whiskers as well but then if you saw how whiskery Wilf gets --- he looks like an old grey man with a bushy
beardmuzzle. Plus his eyelashes get snipped but then they do begin to stop him seeing anything if they weren't
-
If only I could remember how to post pictures I'd show you the complete pig's breakfast I've made of Paddy this weekend. On the legs front - he could give Gill's two a run for their money. I'm just completely crap at grooming him. Luckily his back and flanks aren't any trouble and just combing/brushing this area is enough, but his chest and legs are like thick rusty black wool - thinning scissors, CoatKing - both take loads out but make no difference to the neatness or texture.
And how the devil do you get the little bu**ers to stand still to let you trim that horrid beardy bit under their muzzle? Paddy is hopping about like a lunatic when the scissors get near his face despite numerous repeated "desensitise & reward" efforts....
Hurray for whiskers and eyelashes too, though......God help the mister who comes between me and my whisker.....tra la la la

yep, know what you mean about the 'beardy' bit - Saffy has a 'mature' beardy bit which catches anything and everything she eats, so I'm constantly wiping her mouth and she hates it ::) but just cannot get her to be still enough so I can trim it...............same problem with her feet, they're like mops, but my normally placid little dog initially went berserk when I even went to touch her feet, let alone trim them - have to say she is getting better, but it's a long old job ph34r any advice anyone??????????
ooops - have I gone off thread sorry.......... ph34r

If they are pets and not shown you could wizz it off with the clippers before they even have time to flinch ;)
-
Yep, Coco is whisker-free too. What self respecting girlie wants whiskers all over her chops? :005:
-
It could have been a lot worse. Not like poor Vegas and Dallas (sorry Gill).
Indy looks fine, no need to panic. What I want to know is what happened to vegas and dallas?

Take a look at this - page 2 has the pics ;)

Ok, ignore that last comment I have have found the infamous Vegas and Dallas shots. Oh those poor boys. :'( :'(I have to say I would have lost the plot with the groomers and I use the word "groomers" in the loosest possible terms. I hope the boys are back to normal and are not feeling the cold anymore. My thoughts are with you. Indy, believe me you have absolutely NOTHING to worry about!

Haven't you ever seen a dog using their whiskers - I shall have to get a video of Lola using hers. If I put my hand towards her mouth, all her whiskers move towards my hand...they "feel" with them, like cats do.... you shouldn't cut them off tsk tsk. And just to prove I'm right, in case anyone was doubting me :005:

aesthetics don't win over function with me
Has Jarvis been invited to a function that requires the wearing of an aesthetically displeasing hat then ?
