Title: Tear Stains
Post by: Shirley on September 15, 2003, 10:49:14 PM
Hi All  :)

Hope someone might be able to point me in the right direction here.  Morgan doesn't have unusually runny eyes, just a little bit of 'gunk' in the morning or if he's been out in the wind.  One eye has always been al little worse than the other but we clean them regularly with lukewarm water and cotton wool.  There is some staining though and I've tried the Shaws tear stain remover stuff but it hasn't really worked. ???

Just wondered if any of the col members have tried anything else which has worked for this problem.

Any advice greatly appreciated  :)

Shirley   :)

Shitley

You could try adding some tomato puree to his food. It alters the PH of the tears so help prevent it. Once it's there though I've only found time gets rid :- there's no instant cure.

Buddy had this problem, but I now wipe his eyes each and every day - more than once if necessary. I wipe towards the eye to push the moisture rather than wiping it down the face. I also used the tomato which did help too.

We now have no stains ;D but it does take a few weeks.

ooops!! thanks to Colin for IM'ing me. Sorry Shirley - it WAS a mistake - mega honest. Glad it made the others giggle though. The "r" and the "t" are next to each other on the keyboard - just got the wrong one. Hope I haven't offended you :-[ :'(

Shirley has a good sense of humour so I'm sure she will see the funny side to, Pammy. ;)

Incidentally, Shirley, re the tear stains....... Jimmy also suffers from this to a certain extent. However Misty now gives his eyes a good clean with her tongue every morning and a couple of times throughout the day and this keeps the tear stains away. :D You ladies do love your cleaning, don't you ? ;D ;)

Perhaps you could use this information in your quest to convince Eric that Morgan needs a companion ? It's a long shot, but you never know.  ;D

First thoughts when I saw 14 replies to this tonight were amazement -  :o didn't think there were 14 different alternatives to getting rid off tear stains!!!  ;D
Don't worry about it pammy, have made many a blunder like that myself, and in much more important circumstance i.e report cards   ::)
never mind.
Thanks for the replies - will try the tomato puree although he is such a fussy eater, it's going to be 50-50 whether he'll eat the food with that in it.  I do wipe his eyes 3-4 times a day but I've been wiping out from the eye, so that's more than likely my problem.  Will do as you suggested.  ;)
Colin, I know Pam's ideas are practical in the short term but your idea is much more appealing.  I've not mentioned it to Eric for a while as we've had other things on our minds, but things are getting back to normal so I think I'll begin working on him again  ;D :D :)
Thank again.
