Title: Grooming
Post by: samd on September 20, 2007, 01:30:39 PM
Hi,my cocker, Sam, is red and I have been advised by a groomer not to get him clipped.  Is this correct.  The vet said she had never heard of this.  Not sure what to do - will it ruin his coat?

I'm not up on grooming but know alot of others are  ;) But have heard handstripping is better

Hope one of the knowledgable groomers pop along soon to give you some good advice  ;)

You were possibly told this as Reds tend to have a finer coat... hand stripping is the better option, but once your pup is castrated, you may need to clip instead as hand stripping becomes almost impossible due the change in coat once neutered.

Really depends on the individual dog though and your preference.

Have you got an piccies you can post of Sam?  :D

Your groomer is correct. Clipping, especially on reds, will make the coat go wooly or cottony. He will look much better if he is handstripped, or if you use a Coat King on him.
