Title: Grooming Seminar/Workshop
Post by: Michele on May 27, 2008, 04:26:55 PM
THE SOLID COLOURS COCKER SPANIEL ASSOCIATION
Present
A KC SEMINAR AND TRIMMING WORKSHOP

SATURDAY, 28TH JUNE 2008
WEEDON BEC VILLAGE HALL, near NORTHAMPTON
(3 miles Junction 16 M1)

Morning

Kennel Club Seminar – The Requirements of a Dog Show Judge
Kennel Club Accredited Trainer – Christina Chapman

This seminar covers all the rules and regulations you need to know if you wish to judge at any show.  It involves a talk by our very entertaining speaker and a multiple choice test to acquire a certificate.  The certificate is required for any of the Breed Council judging lists.
The seminar is also useful if you wish to steward at shows or just for your personal interest and the test is not compulsory.
This seminar is not just for cocker folk so you can bring friends in other breeds.

Lunch

Ploughman’s lunch and sweet.

Afternoon

Trimming Workshop

The afternoon will start with a short introduction. The rest of the time will be a workshop with a number of people offering advice and demonstrations of different aspects of trimming for show and pet cocker spaniels.  You are welcome to bring your own dogs but no more than two and don’t expect a complete makeover.  Solid and parti-colour cockers welcome.

It would be useful if people with dogs are able to bring their own grooming equipment and a grooming table if at all possible.

Morning coffee and afternoon tea will be available.

For further information, prices and booking forms please contact Barbara Ward Tel: 01832 293432 or email BarbaraWatWensum@aol.com.  All committee members will also be able to help with information

Why not put your name down then,  :shades: :D

It is going to be a very relaxed no pressure day, just being held purely to help people in the right direction, whether for show or pet trim.

I so want to do the trimming workshop as well as the req seminar, but I have to babysit from 4pm so I don't think I will make it back in time up to J30.  :-\  Will have to see if I can negotiate on babysitting times.  ;)

I've just got back from our committee meeting today and I think it's going to be a really good day.
We really want to emphasise that this is going to be a very relaxed day, so if you have any doubts about not being able to do something or you think you'd look silly please don't.

We've managed to get a good group of people who turn their show dogs out beautifully to help and pass on some of their skills. :shades:

I will also be demonstrating a pet clip on my Halle. I'm letting her coat grow between now and then and already she is starting to resemble a Yeti  ::) so there should be a good transformation. Even if that's all you want to see I'm sure it would be of benefit.

In case of any misunderstanding this is open to all colours and not just solid cockers.

KellyS who is also on the committee, has done a fantastic job with sponsorship and we have some excellent raffle prizes, all grooming related. :shades:

We have quite a few names on the list already, and naturally numbers will be limited for people to work on their own dogs, so get your name down now to avoid disappointment.

Have I sold it to you well enough? I hope so  ;) :003:

For those that won't be able to attend, would it help if I had someone taking photo's as I clip and trim Halle and I could put remarks with each photo?

I would say video it but it'd probably take forever to upload. >:(

Yes I'm sure it would help, even those of us that are going   ph34r

I was going to ask if we need permission to video it  :D

Ooooh just spotted this! Might see if we have anything planned for that weekend, I have a horrible feeling it's the same weekend as a festival though   :-\ Could do with some tips for legs as I've just about given up on Chloe's!
Title: Re: Grooming Seminar/Workshop
Post by: Michele on June 03, 2008, 09:42:31 PM
Certainly for the part I shall be doing I don't mind if you take photo's or video it for that matter - my only condition is the photo's/video is of Halle and not me!!  >:( :shades: :D

As for the others you could always ask if it's ok to take photo's as I'm sure you'll find them helpful.

Getting a good response now, should be a good day.

YAY, I can come.  They have managed to find someone else to babysit so I can do the trimming workshop.   :D  I am bringing my friends daughter along too who has just started showing their cocker.     I am really looking forward to finding out how you are 'supposed' to do the back legs.   :shades:

As I'm the only one doing a clip demonstration you'll know who I am, but you'll have to let me know who you all are.

Hi

This sounds fab, but Purdey still won't have had her 2nd lot of jabs by then.

Will you be doing another one sometime soon?

I have a friend with a Westie who is desperate to learn how to groom him herself as well, so we would definitely put our names down. We are in Essex/Suffolk but willing to travel (within reason!!!)

Thanks  :D

I went to one of these a few years ago and it was brilliant. Lot's of great grooming advice from some seasoned pro's  :shades:
Worth going if your dog is a pet or you are interested in showing.

Like most things this has taken quite a bit of organising, and then you have to fit it around the dog showing calendar, so no, this particular club won't be doing another one, not at least for this year.

But why not come along as an observer and make notes for future reference. :shades:

As for your friend with a Westie, that's a whole different style of trimming and I'd suggest she contact one of their breed clubs. ;)

The response and bookings for this have been very good but there are still a few more places, as before anyone who is interested can PM me their email address and I can send them a booking form to print out.

Anglian water have found traces of the bug cryptosporidium and are advising people not to use water that has not been boiled first for everything from cooking to brushing teeth, and for pets etc etc  until further notice. This is for most of Northamptonshire so it will be wise to bring you own water with you for your dogs. (I don't know if they will make arrangements for this)

Well, I have decided not to bring Archie.   :'(  He got into a scuffle in the woods this afternoon,  >:( so he is now decidedly edgy.  Will I still get the benefit of the grooming course without having my dog with me?  I am bringing my friends daughter with her blue roan, but I really wanted to have a go myself, but it would be too stressful for me and Archie, I would be on edge all the time.   :-\

Sorry to hear about Archie AnnieM.  I'm just going to watch (with Fred so he gets to meet his brothers) - don't think it'd look too good with all you 'proper' groomers if i brought an ironing board to stand Fred on  ph34r

I'm bringing Indie just to watch as well, she's having a cut on Tuesday (not by me), I just want to watch incase there comes a time that I ever need to attempt it myself.

Thanks Michelle i certainly have more confidence to give it a go now, Infact i've had a stab at Remy's feet although with miss fidget bum they are no way as good as yours.  The rest will have to wait untill i can get some clippers.

I hope you finished both sides :lol2:

As above, thought it was a great day, thought the morning session was highly entertaining as well as informative.  I managed at last to get the help I needed with the areas of Izzy I've been struggling with so hopefully she'll look better in the ring on her next outing.  Thanks to everyone who worked to make it such a successful day

Tilly and I want to apologise to all our COL and Solid Cockers friends for not being at the workshop on Saturday.  My Dad was rushed into hospital on Friday and I have been looking after my Mum who has vascular dementia and Alzheimers.  I have not been able to get close to a working pc to let anyone know about our situation and, of course, had no telephone numbers on me.  I have just got home (Sunday evening) and wanted to say sorry for not being there to everyone.  I am gutted to have missed it but it sounds like you have all had a great time.

My Dad has had his appendix out btw!

Sorry to hear that Sue, it would have been good to meet you seeing as Tilly and Indie are related, albeit distant.    I only met about 3 people from COL even thought there was probably more there.    I watched Michelle clipping Halle who was a little star.

Glad you all enjoyed the day, I think I've just about recovered and it was nice to meet you, I hope I made sense babbling away.  ::)

Jeanette made use of my camera as I was trimming Halle so hopefully for those of you that couldn't make it I hope to be able to give you a bit of an idea with the photo's.
Got a busy week this week, but I'll try and do it sooner than later.

Sorry to hear about your Dad Sue, I hope he's comfortable and on the mend.

Enjoyed it too apart form the journey :o We set off in loads of time and even went Shopping
at a supermarket in Kettering as we were so early.
Then found out the A45 was closed so had to head north to the M1 which I was trying to avoid.

Emily has almost forgiven me for the test in the morning. Spent a lot of time driving home working out
what we got wrong. :005:

Just want to apologise for not uploading any pics just yet. Those that watched me clip Halle will know that I was struggling with a cough which has now escalated into a full blown cold and a mother of all cough's  >:D
So I haven't been on here as much but will try and get round to sorting them out soon.

Anyone got their results from the morning seminar yet?

Thank you to all that organised this day; it was fun and very informative.  Also it was lovely to meet so many fellow COLers and their dogs.

Did anyone pick up a pair of thinning scissors (42 teeth, cant remember the brand) and/or a red comb (untangler I think it is called) with rotating teeth by mistake?  I seem to have mislaid mine during the afternoon  :embarassed: .  If anyone has been trying to return them to their owner please could you pm me...alternatively Lily and I are going to E. of England tomorrow and we also entered London Cocker at the weekend.

I can certainly raise it as a question when we have our next committee meeting.

If and when anything is decided you can be sure that COL members will be kept informed. ;) :shades:

Thanks for suggesting though.
