I took Eric for his first puppy session at 16 weeks. The groomer just washed and fussed him and then we built up with short sessions monthly from there. He went for his first full groom at about 7 months I think.

My breeder grooms Barney so when we got him at 4 months he'd been trimmed but took him for his hand stripping sessions a few weeks ago, he told us he'd got a whole bucket of hair from the little monster :005:

We have just recently got a 6 month old blue roan and we are wondering when to have him cut? His furr is fluffly at the moment but is getting abit long on his legs.

Any suggestions when and where to have him done?

Hi - Dax was 9 months old - just went this week to be hand stripped. (He had a bath at a groomers when he was 6 months old but I don't think that counts).

I normally take a puppy around 12 weeks, just for a bath and a little trim, then app 6 mths for a hand strip.

I took Willow when she was around 5 - 6 months, the groomer wanted to clip her there and then  >:(  She said,  "I'm not sure why you are here then ?" when I said no thanks. I just wanted to introduce her to the being handled/bathed by a stranger, the more powerful hair dryers etc.  Also, she said, "you dont hand strip cockers".   Hence, we only went to her once.

After that we went to an agricultural training college, and they did a fab job, although they still wanted to get the clippers on her  :shades:   The funny thing was, she showed me a cocker, that was there, I said, oh yes, I like how he looks, hehe, she said, he's in to be clipped !   :lol2:

Julie was first groomed at 11 monthes old because I didn't know how to groom a cocker and I brought her to a specialist.

For Gala, when she was 3-4 monthes old, I only looked after her feets, coat under the mouth and around the anus. I hand stripped her back and her head for her first show when she was 7 monthes old. I could handstrip her tighs and shoulder the month after. Now she is 1 and still have puppy coat on her front legs and sides.

We start to handle our pups from a very young age even if it's a few minutes brushing with a soft brush - you can't start too early! The earlier the better  :D
