Curl on side, how to 'correct' it?
« on: September 26, 2013, 01:06:47 PM »
Ok this photo isnt’ great, but it sort of shows what I mean (I can get a better one when I’m home tonight).

Charlie’s hair on his sides, seems to grow naturally forward…(the photo doesn’t show it well)…you can see next to his black splodge what I mean (sort of)…so he always has a curl here, sort of where his sides meet his shoulders. He also has curled hair under his ears (so the hair on top of his shoulders) where his ears rest.

What can I do to minimize the curl – obviously chopping it off would work, but I’m not sure that’s the proper solution. It also doesn’t feel like it could be stripped out, so I’m rather stuck.

I’m also going to brave straightening his skirt. I don’t know whether to do it now, or after his next show in a couple of weeks. I’ll see how brave I am tonight :)

Actually this photo, shows the curl next to his black splodge well…

Have you used a 'shine on' coat when he dries after bathing?  They help to flatten out those bits if preparing for a show.

Yea, but it only works for about 24 hours.

My Ollie has bits like that. Sometimes I thin them off, but otherwise they don't bother me as not showing (and coat worked fine for that).  Wouldn't think there's much you can do with them permanently aside from trimming (but then they will likely just grow back curly again).

I think there is probably quite a bit more hair you could strip out there, especially on the sides of the neck (we have one with a very similar coat). I would highly recommend this stripping powder which really does help get the hair out much more easily. It's expensive but a little goes a long way:

PS I'm recommending this because you do show Charlie - if you didn't, then tidying up with thinning scissors would be fine :D

I'll give it a go :). I've got some chalk for stripping so I'll try it tonight when I trim him :)

I did his shoulders under his ears, don't know why I didn't think about stripping it. Doh. It's not perfect yet, but we'll get there. :)

I braved trimming his skirt too :)

Well done :shades: If you do a little bit of stripping every day, it's easy to keep on top of (that's what I do anyway :D)

I braved straightening his skirt too. I could have done with a 3rd hand, but for my first attempt I'm pretty pleased :)
