Help - How Can I Sort His Coat Out
« on: July 05, 2005, 05:03:44 PM »
Hello

Forgive me  but i don't know the name of the "green balls" that Barney seems to attract when out.

In the summer he gets covered from them (they are from plants) and they get stuck in his legs/chest/face. I can't get them out - it would literally take me hours to pull ever single one out!

Does anyone have any suggestions or even know what i am talking about??

Many thanks

It does take hours, especially when you have to get them out of 7 Cockers  :o  :D
Sorry but the only way is to comb & pick them out.

They are a complete pain, but my dogs' enjoyment comes 1st & the hard work then follows  :)

Molo found a patch of these and jumped in it twice    - I stopped counting once I'd pulled out 45 of the little blighters

Is it easier to take them out of wet or dry hair, I wonder

A wide tooth comb with a rubber band threaded through really helps, also does a bit of stripping at the same time :)

Buddy gets these, too, every time we go for a walk.

We tried to vary our route to avoid them but they are everywhere!

I have found that they are difinitely much easier to remove from dry hair than wet.

Am I right in thinking that they can't do much harm? Just very annoying.

Yes, they are VERY annoying

I've always picked them out of a dry coat but wonder if there are loads would they come out easier if rinsed with conditioner?

We have a problem at the moment with the 'sticky willies' but I just love picking them out. I find it quite therapeutic!!. No sooner have I got them all out of the 3 dogs, then its time for the next walk and it starts all over again

It was the horrid brown ones that Buddy got totally covered in earlier this year - left over from last autumn, and he was on one very long walk with hubby. Came back in a right state. Had no choice but to cut most of his coat off. I was distraught but he was in such a pickle. Turned out the coat I had to cut was mostly underneath and so he kept a top trimming and most ppl wouldn't know he only had half the coat he should have - lucky escape.

I don't mind the little green sticky buds as they do come out much easier than the brown ones.

Keeping the coat well condition and as tangle free as poss is a big help ;)

Im exactly the same.  I sit and watch the telly and pick them out while Bailey sleeps.  I think he quite enjoys it too.

I know - isn't it great to be a Scot with names like that!!  :P  :D

I thought that was just a name that my Gran used and I just carried on - first time I have heard someone else call it that too!!
