Grass burrs
« on: September 16, 2016, 09:59:07 AM »
Is it me, or are there a record amount of burrs around this year? After every walk I need about 20 minutes to detangle Humphrey's ears and legs, the seeds themselves stick to each other and form great lumps which get matted up with the hair.  They're a nightmare to get out, he's pretty patient on the whole but gets a bit fed up when he wants a snooze after his walk and I'm pulling at his ears!! >:D . I daren't leave them incase they get inside. They're also on his legs and bum,
I can't quite figure out what they are,( they're green and about the size of a peppercorn and are covered in miniscule "hooks". Any ideas what they are?

Gosh, they almost look like baby acorns, but the ones by us are far more developed.  So actually,  I have no idea! :005:

Never seen anything like that here, maybe they are specific German burrs! We get lots of the round ones. Easy enough to pull out. Have you got Cowboy Magic serum? That might help loosen them

Monty gets those ones in him too! They're a nightmare when they join together to form one monster burr! They drive me insane! Not sure what they are apart from hugely irritating!

Cowboy magic and a good brush sorts Monty out (when he lets me!)

burrs in Scotland are a complete nightmare at the moment too.  Ollie's ears get matted with them and he hates us trying to get them out.  The only way he will put on a semblance of tolerating the procedure is if he is allowed to examine and preferably eat each one you pull out.  >:(

When we walk in terrain like that I use Penny's hurrta slush combat suit. It doesn't seem to make her hot, so I can use it in summer, and it covers her almost completely. All I need to check at the end of the walk is ears and paws
