As I've been practising, my hand stripping is getting better but the hair on Disney's neck just will not budge :unsure:  I use chalk on my fingers as I find that gives me the best grip - it's helped me strip his head and legs but the neck seems to be a no-go. I've also tried using my spratts comb but that had no effect. Anyone have any tips?

Gill,

Are you talking about the back of the neck from the back of the skull? :D

The way I do it is Abby likes to push her head into your body for a cuddle :D she does this whilst on the table, so with fine rubber gloves (medical type) I gently roll the rolls of skin in one hand and use the other to strip the coat from left to right, working down the neck and into the shoulders?  Not sure if this is the right way to do it but I do find I get better grip with the gloves.

No expert but this is the way I was shown.

I'll get some gloves from work this afternoon and give that a go.. Thanks Michelle. I think the main problem lies in the fact that the hair on his neck seems very wiry, if thats the right word. I'm going to blame it on that anyway, and not my rubbish grooming :lol:

Gill,

I think these are guard hairs :huh: I could be wrong but generally longer and wirier(sp) than the under coat.

I blame all Abby's tufts, bumps and bald bits :blink: on the way her coat grows........... can't have anything to do with my grooming :D

Good luck with the gloves. :D

That sounds like Debbie’s technique :P ...I like the finger cots...but get shouted at by mum for buying them :rolleyes: ...when she pinches LOTs of gloves from work <_<  lol

Sorry to sound so thick  :blink: - but when you say you use chalk is this just ordinary chalk that children use of is it special powdered canine chalk!!!

You can buy the blocks of chalk from most of the online grooming places or at some shows.

If you are going to use chalk I would personally wash it out of the coat afterwards as it can rot the coat, so I have been told. :D
