I hope you won't be offended but I must admit I'd be a bit disappointed if a groomer clippered my dogs all over like that ( although it's hard to see properly with him sitting down, so maybe I'm doing the groomer a dis-service) - but he still looks very handsome and will appreciate shedding some of that fluff with the weather getting warmer now.
If you have a good read of the grooming section there's lots of threads on how to trim using a Coat King and thinning scissors, which gives a much more natural look than using clippers - you could teach yourself and probably not just save a lot of money longterm but also do a better job. You could make a start by thinning out the ears a bit.
Re the topknot - I got loads of hassle from everyone I know for removing Jimmy's and must admit I missed it myself for a while. Now looking back at the old photos I wonder what I was thinking of - he looks so much better now with a nice neat head and less like an 80's big haired freak.
