Ahem, trimming certain bits
« on: May 31, 2006, 10:18:41 AM »
OK, here's a question we've been pondering over for a while.  :embarassed:
The hair at the end of Dyl's willy is getting very long indeed (and gets very wet when he wees, obviously).  Will it stop growing at a certain length or should we/is it ok to trim it?
Thanks

It's fine to trim the hair though I usually leave about an inch or so (in theory it protects said "bits" ;))

Good, I was wondering about that too!  Also, maybe Henry just has poor aim, but the fur on his tummy also gets a bit wet and smelly.  Would it be ok to trim this?

Yes I usually do trim the hair short in this area on pet boys with a lot of hair - it makes them a lot less whiffy :D

Don't trim it too short though - as it has an effect on their aim ! :005:

Thanks Jane! However, I have been taking Henry to ringcraft classes and entered him for a few shows - does this change things?!

No, you should be able to just trim back a small area above his willy and leave the feathering on both sides so you can't see the trimmed area. You'll have to be careful not to trim too wide an area or you might find you get a noticeable gap. Baby wipes are good for giving a quick clean-up to a show dog, if you didn't want to risk cutting the hair

We've always trimmed Max's belly & 'winky' hair - much nicer for all concerned!!  :005:

Henry nods off and snores whenever i tackle his tackle. Do you think he's enjoying it a bit too much? :005:

Which explains why Paddy kept getting the back of his front paws wet for two weeks after I cut a bit TOO short :005: :005:
