They've shaved off all his feathers!! HELP!!
« on: October 16, 2006, 10:14:53 AM »
I have been to two groomers since we got Merlin. The first one we stopped going to because she cut his ears so short he didn't look like a Cocker anymore. Luckily she was retiring anyway so we wouldn't have to go back. We changed to another groomer and told her we don't want him cut too short and we don't want his ears to be cut short either. My mum picked him up for me and she got the shock of her life when she saw him. The girl who I had given instructions to had left for the day, and obviously hadn't listened properly to what I had said. He was completely shaved all over (all his feathers were shaved off >:() revealing places you don't want to be revealed! However she had left his long ears. He looks awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a blue roan (although a very dark one as can be seen in the photo).

I desperately need to find a good groomer (who specialises in Cockers) who will only trim his feathers (when they grow! >:() and just trim him all over and not shave him. I live in Hazel Grove, Stockport. Near Poynton, Woodford etc.

What a shame  :'( :'(, I have the same problem here in Mallorca . As it happens my little female Dixie just got her lovely feathering then at 13 months she shed them after her 1st show + 1st season  >:(
,She still hasnt got the main feathering back yet , just a little on her front legs and a set of frilly nickers under her tail , but she is still gorgeous  :luv: :luv: :luv: :luv: :luv:
Hope good advise on a groomer is on its way

Oh god, how awful - this is why I do Scooby myself, I wouldn't trust anyone.

I did take Scooby once to the groomers at The Pet Hotel in Denton but chatted to her and wrote down instructions that she wasn't to let the clippers within 10 yards of him.  She only used thinning scissors and she did a beautiful job.

It was just before we went on holiday and he looked like a yettie and I didn't have time to do a good job on him so I thought I'd take him.  She did him lovely but charged £50.00  :o

I'm a groomer near macclesfield,it took us about 40mins to get to Hazel Grove when we had to visit Stockport,so not too long of a journey. My best advice is to be brushing him every day from now on even while he's short coated to get into a routine (if you don't already that is)and make sure when his feathering is quite dense that you brush thoroughly down to the roots not just the surface hair,as this is a mistake many of my customers make when I show them how matted their dogs really are they are shocked as they have brushed them every day  :o .If your doggy was completely matt free then there is no excuse for this type of trim and is a poor job indeed.I charge twenty pounds to groom a cocker, more if its stripped.

I'm in Warrington and use a good groomer here. She really listens to what I want and does what I ask. Having a solid and a roan they tend to be trimmed different due to their coats, but I'm really please with her.

Let me know if you want the details - might be a bit far in the lovely morning traffice during the week.

I live in Stalybridge, not far from Stockport, I believe Rusty's canine kingdom in Ashton under Lyne is good but you wait a couple of months for an appointment....hence I've never tried it. I used one in Mottram last time and Sam came back looking beautiful but she was expensive at £27 I think.
