1st trip to groomers tomorrow, but......
« on: March 27, 2007, 05:32:01 PM »
Honey is nearly 2 and it will be her first trip to get groomed tomorrow. However she doesn't tolerate getting brushed, never mind anything else - my hands are covered in bruises (I do bruise very easily) where she has nipped me, while I was brushing her this afternoon. I had to put on some heavy duty gardening gloves. I do groom her regularly but she isn't improving at all.

I have told the groomer she is a nervous dog and inclined to be a bit nippy while grooming - she just laughed and said they were used to it. She told me they rarely have to muzzle a dog - but I'm sure they'll have to muzzle Honey. She says you would be surprised how well behaved they can be at groomers, even though they are a nightmare at home.

I asked if she had experience with cockers, to know if she was used with their coats - but I think she thought I was referring to their behaviour. It was quit ereassuring because she did say that she regularly did a number of cockers, and said "you know cockers are no worse than any other dog!" This was not what I meant but it reassures me that she is not one of those who have preconceived ideas about cockers and their behaviour ;). (although that might change when she meets Honey).

I'm dreading it and in the verge of cancelling - but her legs need tidied.

As you can see she is a bit of a hairy beast at the moment, but I don't really want her back touched - what would you ask them to do?

I would say leave her back, thin out her leg and backend, tops of ears and make her feet neat.
She is lovely by the way :luv:

Even if you don't get exactly what you want first time, it will grow back - but if the groomer manages Honey's behaviour, then the trip will have been successful, as that is more important, imo  ;)

Well, she didn't eat them thankfully.

She was a but snappy at first - and they muzzled her, but she said by the end she had settled. She siad it was definitely more nerves than aggression.

She said she had worse and told me to stop worrying.

She did cut her front legs a bit too close on the front - butleft feathering at the back.

She said she didn't thinks sheshould touch her back either - as you are not really supposed to clipper spaniels in general - think that is right.

I think however she did however use something, as all the fluffy, annoying little hairs have gone - and she has nice smooth coat - but it hasn't been cut.

She got rid of her underchin beard - she looked like a billy goat :005: - and that is good too.

Honey has been very jumpy since though - I think she found it al a but stressful ;)

They probably used a Coat King to get rid of the fluffy fine hairs on her back.
Right then, we need pics of beautiful Honey with her new do !

OK - but she has since been through the fields - and I guess the freshly groomed look  (and smell) has worn off :005:

Off to take some now

Ask not what your cocker can do for you, but ask what you can do for your cocker!!

She looks lovely  :luv: :luv:

Coco is a pain when I try to groom her - very uncooperative.   >:D
She is much better behaved at the groomer though - don't know what they do but they always seem to manage to do the bits I can't  ::)  I think she just plays me up because she gets away with it  >:(
