cleaning ears, should i buy the cleaning drops?
« on: January 20, 2008, 09:09:22 AM »
Kasper has just finished a course of antibiotics for an ear infection and all looks fine now  :D , however was wondering would it be worth buying some drops to incoperate into his general care and if so how often would you recommend you clean his ears as i have heard that overcleaning can also pose a problem

A lot of people on here use Thornits powder for ear infections etc and for general ear care.  I put a pinch in Coco's ears about once a month or when I remember  ph34r  It is fab and she has never had any ear probs since I started using it when she was a pup!  :D

This thread tells you about it but if you do a search on Thornit or thornits you will find lots more posts about it.  ;)

poor maisie  :-\  I've not heard of this before - maybe she has an underlying ear problem or an intolerance to one of the ingredients

No, I put the powder right into the ear canal as far as possible and squish it around.  That is where it is needed not on the ear flap - it may well irritate the skin there.  :-\  I would try it right in the ear canal (after wiping the ear out with a wet wipe and letting it dry) and see if that works better.  ;)

I have always used johnsons ear drops.Thet contain an ingredient to kill ear mites and they sooth irritation and soften wax.You can get them in most pet shops.I tend to put them in about once a month and the dogs never seem to have ear problems.

coco seems to scratch her ears, and makes a funny little noise when doing this. It doesnt sound like pain, but then again, i cant say im fluent in dog language. i keep her ears clean, and i certainly cant see anything in them. Any advice??????
