what groomer?!

probably my advice would be to try a little bit of hand stipping on Ollie so you get an idea of how the groomer will do it and also so Ollie starts getting used to the sensation of it.

Have a look on the thread about how to do it and maybe get the video aswel.

I tried to pluck some hair today, but nothing came away. Is he not ready yet?

I would assume he wasnt ready yet, you'll be able to tell martys only just become ready and hes almost 8 months now. should come out fairly easy but obviously will need to pull gently at it. Martys looks quite fluffy and dry and comes out with just a gentle pull, there may be certain bits of him that are looser than others e.g: his sides and top knot

It's easier to hand strip when they are going into a natural moult. My Ellie was 10 months old when she was ready for stripping. The fur should come out easily. Some parts will be ready before others. Don't try and pull a clump just a few hairs at a time. If it doesn't come out easily it's not ready. Also a wide tooth metal comb with an elastic band entwined through the teeth is very good for removing the under coat. I lay it flat on the dogs body and it takes out loads.

Has anyone showed you how to 'handstrip' because if its not done right you wont get anything out and it  could hurt the dog.All dogs are diffrent Bob is now 7 months and i have not long started stripping him but in places it doesn't want to come out so I'm not going to rush it,Cilla was ready to be stripped at 5/6 months.
Maybe you could find a groomer in your area that also shows and they could maybe show you how to handstrip. It does take time but the finishing result is worth it   :luv:

I don't know how to hand strip which is why I would like to find a product that does the same effect for me.

If you do plan to show dont use a coat king. Wait until his coat is ready, it is worth it  ;)

No, no, I think for pet use they are supposed to be great  ;) but they can apparently damage the coat for show.

Indie was coat-kinged and had her first haircut at 7.5 months old, she was a hairy beast.    She isn't shown though.    Here's her before and after - I didn't want her clipped.

If he stops growing upwards now, I'd like to do breed/open shows etc. If he does grow upwards, then it's companion shows for us. :lol2: He's 16" at the moment, so just pray he's finished growing up.
