Agghhh - Burdock Burrs - everywhere
« on: January 11, 2009, 01:08:35 PM »
Molo is absolutely matted in them, and Bonnee has them caught in the little feathering she has  >:(

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get them out before I scalp them both with the clippers?  :o

Hate them.  My two get them when they go to the beach  >:(  I try and tease most of the burr out with my fingers, then slicker brush out the remaining left overs.

I hate these things. I had never seen them before and Monty had one embedded in his tail. I thought it was some sort of creature  :embarassed: and cut it out, leaving a 2" gap right in the middle of his long feathered tail.

They are a nightmare at the moment - Jimmy and Stevie got covered in them yesterday. I just pick them out, sometimes pulling through the fur with the blade of a straight pair of scissors and keep brushing with the slicker in between. I've tried one of those rotating combs but found it pretty useless.

A severe haircut was the only solution! I used a 1/4" on Molo and an 1/8" on Bonnee!

(by the time I'd finished, it was too dark to take a decent pic of Bonnee!)

Oooo ..that looks a bit draughty underneath!!!
They really are the worst prickles to get out.

I split them in half with my fingernails whilst they are still in the coat so that the seed coats are  are easier to remove -although they do fall apart of course. Then I comb out the remaining seeds.
