Thanks for bringing that to my attention did not see it....But i am not a stickler for sell buy date (LIKE the wife is)...But cod liver oil is a (preservative) and would go past any sell buy date...Chris

We have cod liver oil that we give to the horses that we get from Holland and Barret that has been out of date for ages and it has never been a problem to the horses..(we do not give this to are dogs)..Only the powered garlic....that we sprinkle on top there food...

Fair enough - I would happily use tinned or dried goods well past their "sell by" dates but not oil past a "use by date" (different to a sell by date) as oil can degenerate. Depends on how well it's been stored I guess and how quickly you're going to be using it up :D

Ozzie has a tin of sardines one a fortnight in tommy sauce which helps her coat stay shiny although it must be said it could be the SHEEP DROPPINGS she likes to roll in. ;)

I use Fish 4 Dogs Salmon Oil in my dogs food.

Me too ( well until a few weeks ago when I ran out!).

I think it is absolutely amasing stuff!! Billys coat is so soft and shiny when we use this, plus he hardly gets any knots now too.
Takes around 8 weeks to see a difference though  :D

Amber has a very dry coat at the moment , i thought it was just her winter coat and also she was spayed about six months ago and i know that can have an affect on their coats. she is 18 months today, i am not sure what their coat should look like at this age ! last summer she had the most amazing shiny beautiful coat and i don't know if she will get that back now she has been spayed, maybe i should try the salmon oil.?

For those of you who are going to Crufts, fish 4 dogs usually have a big stand and often have offers on for their fish oil ( That's what I'm waiting for  :D )

Maybe but you're talking about fish inside sealed tins not plastic bottles - having bought some salmon oil off Ebay a while ago which was clearly rancid, I'm not taking any chances (the seller did refund me so no problems there).

I add Yumega Dog to my dogs' food and it has made a huge difference, in texture as well as shine.

Thank you again all for your help. I had placed an order , i am funny about sell by dates too, but, i hadnt activated my credit card so it came back "unable to process". I will certainly try some of the redommendations thought.
Many thanks for your time

How long does it usually take before you see improvements?

I've always added sunflower oil about one or twice a week to my dogs dry food. One tablespoonish. It certainly helps with their coats and it's always available in my cupboard.

Hello
Im sure this has been covered already but i cant seem to find it.... Nell is 16 months old and healthy in every way, but, she hasnt got a very glossy coat, it isnt even shiney. She has JWB to eat, she doesnt have treats, just a little piece of the food for rewards which she seems content with. I know you can add a little oil to her meal to promote a glossy coat but would a teaspoon of olive oil do, or must it be cod liver oil capsules. I had heard that the odd egg would help but when i googled that it said that egg white is undigestable to dogs ,
Many thanks in advance....
xx

Lola has Arden Grange Salmon kibble - and everyone comments on her lovely shiney coat  :D
