I would ask her to give you some lessons and then do him yourself  ;)

Awww That's a shame. Wish I was closer as I would happily do him. I don't know anyone that way I don't think, but if I hear or think of anyone I will let you know of course. I would look for qualification and just as importantly experience. Recommendations from other people is a great way too. I hardly do any advertising now. Most of my business is from recommendations from other customers. Word of mouth is a fab thing. To be honest I know it's a bit further out, but you likely wont get better than the reccommendation from your present groomer to be honest.

Jan....i spent a few hours with 2 different Groomers, one of which specialised in Cockers. Practised & practised on mainly poor Alfie & Jo Jo.  :005:  Also went to a Breed Seminar with a demo on Cocker Grooming & i am planning to spend some time with a Show Groomer later this week in the hope i can learn more about handstripping.  :P
If you ask a recommended Groomer to give you a couple of lesson's i am sure most of them would be happy to help.  :D

If you have a choice of groomers in your area, I would visit each one and spend time talking with them, explaining how you would like your dog to be groomed,  and also try and get a look at some of the other dogs they have groomed. I was actually taught to groom by a groomer who breeds and shows cockers, and wish I was in your area. Unfortunately I am right at the other end of the country!  :-\ When I stopped grooming, the person who set up after me worked previously as a driving instructor (!!!) and some of the dogs she turns out makes me feel like crying. Every single one of them comes out shaved, with tails that are left much too long and not in balance with the body. It is really important to make sure that your groomer knows exactly what she is doing and how she is supposed to be doing it, before you let her loose on your dog. There are some really good groomers around, but equally there are some dreadful ones too, so do shop around. Good luck and would love to hear how you get on.
