Title: I'm New To All This, But Cocker Mad!
Post by: silkstocking on October 27, 2005, 04:52:46 PM
Hi! Well this is all new to me, I've never joined ahything like this before,I'm looking forward to the new experience! I have two beautiful blue roans, Milo and Nancy. Milo is one and a half and Nancy turned one yesturday. They are my pride and joy! As I'm typing this are hareing round my living room, they play non stop! As much as it's noisy sometimes, it's great that they have such fun together, they are like best friends, siblings and husband and wife all at once! Nancy keeps Milo in check even though he is much bigger than she is.....but then it's as it should be, the woman in charge that is!! Dogs, cockers in particular have become a huge part of my life, I don't know what I'd do without them! Anyway I'm rambaling on but that's me! I love grooming the dogs but I'm still a novice so every 6 weeks I go to visit their breeder and she tidies them up and does all the posh bits of grooming I can't do yet. I mentioned to their breeder yesterday that I'd like to go on a cocker grooming course so she said she'd look out for one for me. I think I was really to find such a fantastic breeder who is always at hand if there is a problem.....even now. Anyway I'll stop going on this was just to say hello........so hello!! Look forward to chatting! Love Silkstocking! xx :)

Hi Lisa I'm a newbie too. I'm cocker crazy too and cannot imagine life without Holly - she is 15 months old.

I must be crazy as she hurt her leg at the park yesterday and I ended up carrying her about a mile to get home. Glad to say she is on the mend now.

You will find this site addictive - my son complains that he cannot get on the internet because of me now!

Hope that works not very wise with technology!!

She is fantastic and a real joy to have around. She is my first cocker since I left home although there have been numerous others over the years. Would love another when she is a bit older. Only one thing better than a cocker... two, or three....!!!  :)

Hi, yep my bitch (nancy) goes by the name of silk stocking for KC purposes!! Her dad was lady killer so all the pups in her litter got related names!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Given that she has such a name you'd imagine her to be quite demuire.......well she is to look at but she is an absolute scallywag if truth be told, she's wrestling with my other dog on the floor at the moment!

Wow Sarah thats a lot of dogs!!!!!! Actually I'd be in my element if I was you, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned!! I would love to get more in future and am looking to show and breed too, I know it isn't all fun and that is hard work, I've spent quite a lot of time with my dogs breeder (she grooms them) chatting to her about it and she thinks i'd be really good at it, she says I am aware of the all the hard work which some people who start breeding and showing take for granted. I'm lucky to have got my dogs from her she is always full of great advice and says it how it is!!! Anyway that's my plan for the future, for now I'll have to keep teaching and earn plenty of money to pay for all the dogs I wont and get a bigger house!!! :D  I'm so glad I found this sit it's fab!! Lisa x

Hi there thanks for the welcome!

I can safely say one cocker is not enough!!!!! I have two now, but hope to get more and more and more and..............you get the gist!!!!

I got Nancy when Milo was about 8 months and although people said oh he's still quite young, isn't it going to be too much work I actually have found that having two is easier by far.........which means having 5 or 6 will be a dodule!!!!!!

Hi Tracey!

Thanks for the welcome, my two are both blue roans.......Milo is a much lighter blue than Nancy, they have similiar breeding lines but aren't related. Milo is sitting watching me type this.....but I think the interest is more in the fact that i'm eating my lunch whilst i'm typing........he could eat for england but is a lean little thing! I think that's becaue he's always hareing around the place with Nancy! It's grat to be on this this sit and chat to other cocker people! Lisa x

Your Daisy looks beautiful......and a blue my favourite!!!!!!.........actually i'd be happy with any cocker! I have two blue's who are both mad!.........I can understand why you wont another....cockers are addictive!!!
Do you groom Daisy yourself? I love grooming my two, I find it very theraputic after a hard days teaching! I do all the easy bits of grooming and keep them knot free and i get there breeder to do the posh bits!! I'm hoping to go on a cocker grooming course soon and learn how to do the posh bits too!

Hi and welcome to COL
I am still new to this too - we have had Dillon, our solid chocolate boy for 11 weeks, he is 19 weeks old (young :) ) today!  (I cannot imagine ever being without him - he is sooo funny, cute, cheeky, loving, bouncy, cuddely......he is just the best!!)

I love this site and am hooked, I persuaded OH to get a broadband connection as my dial-up bills were just too massive....

Would love another cocker in years to come, but with an elderly cat, one 6 year old boy and a little girl who is nearly 3 our house is busy enough at the moment!!

Looking forward to chatting with you

I was on a course today that was really interesting and i was really excited about getting back into the classroom and implementing some of the stuff i'd learnt.......my head was so pleased i'd come back all enthusiastic (you know what some of those courses are like!!), that was until i said i needed some resourses! She soon changed her tune when she thought she'd have to spend some money!!

I  rush home at lunch too to be with the dogs......and its the highlight of my day! We can be sad cocker loving teachers together!!!!! I hope you can talk your boyf into letting you have another.......My boyf (husband come Feb!) was a pushover about me getting a 2nd pooch not sure what he'll say when I tell him I want a third!!!!!! tee hee

Title: I'm New To All This, But Cocker Mad!

Hi there sorry for the delayed reply things have been sooooo manic at school I've only had time for work in the evenings!  How are you enjoying your weekend?  I'm having a great one with Bailey, it's so nice getting to spend all day with him,

I teach year 3 and they are young enough! I don't know how you cope with the baby ones, they would drive me insane!!!  So how long have you been teaching and where abouts is your school?

6 weeks and 3 days ;)

Know what you mean about a manic week.....some was school....some was Nancy's bad spaying experience!

Glad you are having a relaxing (if you can ever get relaxed with a mad cocker in the house!!) weeked with Bailey. We are havind a quiet one, we can't go out on any long romps what with Nancy having stitches.....oh well it saves grooming mounds of dirt out of their coats!!

I looooove teaching the little ones! They are bloody hard work mind you!! I'm actually teaching back at my old Primary school! I have been there for nearly 4 years now......it's in Gravesend. What about you, where do you teach? Although I have Reception like I mentioned before the work they are expected to do is more like Yr1/Yr2 work........which can be bloody hard going.......some kids are just not ready to read and write when they are 4/5/6.......and I'm not going to force it....they'll only end up hating school in the long run if I do......It can be quite hard to get the happy medium between the work and play.

I'm lucky because I live fairly close to where I work, so I can pop home to see the dogs at lunch time, sometimes they are like a physciatrist when I come home from a manic morning, I moan they listen!!

I don't know if I can see myself teaching the little ones for ever, my opposite class teacher is 65, I don't know how she copes, some days they drive me insane........let alone adding the age thing to it! By the time I'm 65 I want to have been breeding and showing cockers for 20 years and have got Best In Show at Crufts!! Tee Hee I can dream!!!!!!!!!!! ;) (My friends all think I'm losing the plot going all doggy on them!!)  I better hurry up because my two are pets not show dogs!! Mind you I doubt I'd be able to part with any puppies! Still have a few years yet I'm only 26!  Will have to talk my OH into getting another.....like I said he wants the next one to be a working cocker, like your Bailey.

Anyway I'm rambaling it's a bad habit of mine! I spend so long talking to children when I actually start talking to an adult I can't stop!!!!!!!!!!!

Have just realised we are breaking up on the 16th Dec so I only have 6 weeks!!!!Whoooopppppeeeeee!! Are you breaking up on a Monday then?!?!?

Hi ya!

Gravesend is in Kent, a very dreary place indeed!!!!! Gravesend that is not Kent!

Nancy was spayed on Wed, when I called the vets to ask what time she could come home, they said ahe wouldn't be coming home tonight! She was still bleeding from the op and they were possibly going to have to open her up again.........I was told I couldn't come and see her because seeing me would make her happy and that would make her BP rise and that would make her bleed more.  I was told she may have internal bleeding. I was beside myself! Basically they buggered up the op ( well thats my opinion) the next day when Lee phoned to check on her they said they had never suspected an internal bleed........somebody didn't hav their story straight....and when he quiered a few things they were very cagy indeed. Thankfully she is now home and on the mend. She gets her stitches out on Monday 14th.

Was looking at pics of your Bailey earlier he is such a sweetie, was showing Lee he is most jealous!.

So you live in Birmingham, easy acsses to the NEC, are you heading to Crufts this year, or is it not your thang?.....never though it was mine till I got my munchkins now I'm obsessed!!

Gutting you break up so late for Christmas, that sucks! You'll have to start the Xmas shopping soon otherwise you'll have NO time and it'll be a nightmare!

I think I should PM you rather than chat to you on this thread, not sure anyone else is interested in our rambalings!! (not sure how to PM you though......d'uh!!!!!)
