Aaaw, poor little thing  :-\  No advice really but I think you are right not to make too much fuss as it just reinforces that there is something to be scared of.  I guess the best thing is to try and distract him with a game and treat him for staying calm.  If you have any Rescue Remedy in the house that is meant to be good for this sort of thing too.  ;)

Hope he gets used to the bangs soon - it is horrible when they are scared.  :-\

I am really lucky though - Coco has never been afraid of loud noises and she has been sitting out on the patio watching the fireworks with me  :luv:  My cats hate them though  >:(

Try some calming signals

yawn and then lick your lips and yawn again (Don't know if they work but read them in a book - worth a go  :-\ )

My two cockers are curled up on the sette and occassional look up at the window (curtains closed, but they can still hear them) and Jock just wants to go out  ::) so we let him out and couldn't get the  >:D back in

Pringle is just driving us mad. She is so nosy.  She just wants to go out and see what is going on.  She isn't scared at all and just rushes to the door everytime we get up. The people up the road are doing their usual bonfire thing.  Loads of loud fireworks late in the evening  >:D  So inconsiderate, especially for us people with pets and also for people with babies and small children that probably can't get to sleep.

There are lots of different things to try but when they are really scared there isnt much you can do other that medication from the vets and that has to be given hours before which isnt much use. I hope he is ok and the fireworks are over soon  :luv:

Buy some Emergency Essence, (from health food shops or online health shops) it does really really help with stressed dogs... ;)

Poor Arnie - hope he is ok now

Woofie is ok but maddie hasn't had a wee for hours - she keeps going to the back door - hearing the fireworks and running back in with her tail between her legs.

Luckily she isn't too bad in the house.

Bl@@dy fireworks !!!!  >:D  >:D

I have had fun with my three and my secret weapon tonight.
I've been carrying round a tube of primula cheese and ham and squirting it in their mouths after every bang they alerted to.
I think it has been a remarkable success. :shades:
Oli kicks off, gets in a woof, douglas runs for cover and Bayley tenses up.
I call out "cheese", show em the tube and they're all there for a mouthful,it totally diffused the tension.
after a while they seemed to get the hang of it that bangs meant yummy cheese.
I'll try anything at this time of year and it seems with my three at least I may have hit the jackpot. :D

by George I think he's got it!!!

Jarv does an Olly, and gets really frustrated and tense - is better with a dose of Emergency Essence but now we have been having a great game with cheese and ham and firework bangs....cept there's so many fireworks around he'll be the Goodyear blimp by the end of the firework season  :005:

THANK YOU MARK  :-*
