How old?
« on: March 05, 2008, 12:53:59 PM »
Hello All, this is my first post. Just a quick question really. My love of my life Alfie has just turned six months old and I was wondering at what age do you first get them clipped?

Jesse (American Cocker) was clipped for the first time at about 3 weeks old and roughly every 2 weeks since.  ;)

welcome to COL

I have a boy who is 6 months old, I got him washed at clipped at 4.5 months as he was filthy when we got him.  He is having another trim (feet really) and wash tomorrow

Everyone is different, and depends on what you like etc.

Can we see picks of the love of your life?

Just trying to work out how to do that at the moment. Alfie is just over six months and he is a beautiful blue roan (mostly black). We are first time cocker (and dog) owners and have got loads of questions!! he is so precious that we just want to make sure he gets the best of everything. Any suggestions on how often to bath him? Some say not often cause it washes the oils out of his coat? Trouble is he loves mud!!! :005:

being a first time doggie owner too I am no expert that is for sure

There are lots of people on here that will give you good advice on how often I am sure

I have bathed him a couple of times since I have had him as he was filthy, but I make sure I use a mild shampoo for puppies, I have no idea if that is too much, but his coat is lovely and shiny and he seems happy

Ellie is 6 months and having her first trim next week.  I'm only really doing this out of necessity.  I just love cockers who are all fluffy with long feathering.  I will be having just a tidy up done.  As for bathing, I've never used shampoo but just rinse her with warm water if she gets dirty.  she will be bathed at the groomers

Hamish had his first haircut at 4 months, and is now going for his next one next week at 8 months.

I wash him with a mild doggy shampoo when I think he is dirty or smelly.

Jesse gets a bath every week... he needs to, otherwise his coat become very unmanageable due to the dirt that gets trapped in it. I used PlushPuppy shampoo and conditioners and a blow drying cream to protect the hair.
