why can i not upload my own pic for my avatar , i thought that any pic was automaticly reduced in size if it was too big , i have tried 4 times now , what am i doing wrong. please help i want to get my head shot of my lovely  flo on my avatar

It may be too large Shaz, it can only reduce by a certain amount. If the file is way too big it will choke.
Send the file to me if you want and I'll edit it for you and send it back to you.
