Dog recipes???
« on: July 08, 2009, 01:02:13 PM »

does anyone know where i can find some good recipes especially for dogs like biscuits, treats ect for Lottie?

ive seen a few of you make livercake, what is it and how do you make it?

Lottie will not eat any treats unless it is fresh fish, the odd bit of toast she takes from the children, chicken breast or best beef!!!! >:D the amount of money i have wasted on 'commercial' treats you can buy is ridiculous!

so i thought i'd have a crack at making her some.

if some one could point me in the direction id be most greatful

***i hope this is in the right place, sorry if is isn't****

when i have made livercake for my Dog I cut it all up and put it into smaller freezer bags
and popped it in to the freezer, when i got the first lot out to use, i found as it defrosted
it very quickly when moldy, has anyone else found this, and how can i stop it from doing this

When you say it quickly went mouldy, how quickly? I store it in the fridge after defrosting, but then I only keep it for a couple of days, any left over after then I throw out.

I cut the livercake into small slabs before freezing, I only cut it into treat-size bits as and when I need it, a slab at a time. Small slabs defrost very quickly.

does anyone know where i can find some good recipes especially for dogs like biscuits, treats ect for Lottie?

I was given a book called Healthy Doggie Biscuits by Jonna Anne which came with 3 dog-themed cutters. It was given to me for a joke by my son, but I have actually made some of the biscuits and Morgan loves them. I assume it's an American book, some of the ingredients are unfamiliar. The baking times always seem underestimated so the poor lad hangs around the kitchen for ages! Morgan loves the peanut butter and apple ones, and the sunflower and pumpkin seed as well. The parmesan and parsley ones are delicious but very expensive, I'm going to experiment with smaller amounts of a cheaper cheese! Let me know if you want me to PM you a couple of the recipes but it won't be until later on, maybe tomorrow. HTH

Sheryl sent me that book as a gift and it's fab! I'm not great in the kitchen I have to admit and I don't make them stuff as often as I should but there are some really great recipes in that book and I love the doggy cutters :005:

I make these biscuits, they always go down very well! :D

1/4 cup of grated carrot
1/4 cup of grated cheese
2 tbls olive oil
2 3/4 cups of wholewheat flour
2 tbls of bran
2tsps of baking powder
1/2 - 1 cup of chicken stock

Mix all ingredients together, roll out until thin, cut into shapes and bake in the oven at Gas Mark 4 / 350f / 180c for 20 - 30 minutes.
