Your Dog's "English" Vocabulary?
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:50:38 AM »

Morning.  OK, so it's not English/Scots/Gaelic/Welsh/Greek/French/Etc. per se, but thought it would be fun to find out what oddball words your dogs know?

Will start by eliminating Mollie and Alfie's known command words (which have varying levels of response according to situation):  Sit, Wait, Come, Heel, Leave, Down, NO and Aa-Aa (Dog, is that all?  Surely there are loads more I can't think of.)  In addition they both know Biscuit, Dinner and Lid.  (Suppose Lid is a bit weird but refers to yogurt lids etc.)

Mollie's extra words are:
GET IN YOUR BED - NOW
Where's Kong?  Find Kong.
Where's Your Old Man?  (She does a quick circuit followed by look saying "I ain't going after that fool.")
Give me 5.  On the black side.

Alfie's extra words are:
Go Seek
Gently
Find your Ball
Dead

We have................
Let's find Uncle Ben.........no it's not rice! It's the sign for off to day care, so they go and sit by the front door.
He's coming home today, go look out the window.
Tea time
Snuggle down

There must be many more, my minds gone blank  ::)

Ozzy's words are:
tea time - sometimes the only thing that brings him in from outside, he flies in at this for tea
Empty - strange one I know but it was the only word my OH would use when toilet training him.  He refused to say Go Wee, Go Poo!!  :005:
Find - we're still in training for this, at the moment I have to point to where I want him to sniff and find  :005:

Our best one is "BUNDLE" (said in a very loud excited voice as we throw ourselves to the ground in the foetal position).....

this results in two cockers leaping at us from wherever they are with tails wagging furiously for a game of "bundle" where we cover our heads and faces with our arms and they try to wrestle/wriggle under our arms/legs/body to lick our ears/chin/forehead or whatever they can get at.... been doing with Eddie since he was 8 weeks old! brilliant fun!

Millie knows "whossis?!" for when her Dad gets in from work, she goes pelting to the door for the carnival welcome when he comes in!
Erm, "wee wee" if we're going out in the car and want her to go before we get settled, "whassis?!" for if she's being a  >:D and doesn't want to come in if it's teeming down, (nosey thing!  :lol2:) "clever girl" (her tails ALWAYS wags when you say this to her!) "yummy yummy" when we put her dinner down, so she eats it! Oh and BED! when she's under feet in the kitchen!  :005:
We're also having patchy success with "where's daddy?!" and "where's the ball?"
Can't think of any more at the mo, but blimey, my ickle girl is quite clever!  :luv:

They know 'would you like' as i always say to them 'would you like to go for a walk'
They know the word 'treats', 'walk' wee wee',' fetch' they know to give you a kiss when i say kiss also paw!

She also knows chew, treat, biscuit, tuna, tripe ....you get the picture ...

Maggie has -

Toilet - self explanatory (and toilet NOW when she's searching for that perfect patch of grass for too long!)
Water - she's not a big drinker so I make sure she's had some extra over the day
Want some dinner - food time!
Shall we go bed - time for her to wake up and change beds
bed now - when I need her to get out of the way quick
feet - walk up and down on the towel on the floor to dry her feet
find it - run around like a loon sniffing for "something"  :005:

Penny knows "will we get your brush?" and will try and get on the table to be groomed, as this means treats
"is it time for bed?" and will go through to the kitchen, as this means she gets a small supper
"do you want a sweetie" as this means she'll get a little bit of kibble or cheese....
Hmmm - I think a pattern is starting to emerge :005: :005:.
Thank goodness for a food driven cocker!

Wow!  Exactly how did you train her to do that?

There are obviously some genius-level cockers on here.
