Getting Ready for Charlie Coming Home
« on: April 27, 2007, 06:44:05 PM »
Hi, Charlie (currently 6 weeks old) is coming home in 2 weeks time, so .. its a major shopping trip required ! .. so excited   :D

I've searched the site for a list of things needed before he comes home and cant find a definative list ... so hence the question

so far I've listed

Crate (36 inch) for house
vetbed for crate
2 bowls (inverted shape) for water and food
Collar and lead
some toys
Grooming kit (slicker brush, wide toothed comb, spratts no 76 comb)
Food ...same as he currently has at breeders ..obviously  ;)
Stairgate to keep him secure

is there anything I've missed

any help is gratefully received
Thanks
Phil and Charlie

Something dog-friendly to clean the floor with, not sure which brand is good at the moment because I haven't had a pup for 4 years.

Good luck bringing Charlie home, bet you can't wait.  :luv:

A copy of 'The Perfect Puppy' by Gwen Bailey - essential reading for any puppy owner. You can get it from Amazon or some Pets at Home stores.

Kitchen roll, kitchen roll and erm, more kitchen roll
Shares in a kitchen roll company
Puppy treats for training
A clicker for training if you're going to use one
A tag with your name, address and telephone number on it
A crate or harness for car journeys

Other than that  :005:  I use Zoflora disinfectant or Dettol to clean the floors here, you can mix it up in a spray bottle with water to make it handier to use. Biological soap powder is also good for cleaning up puppy wee as the enzymes break down the smell so they don't get attracted back to the same places. Have you got him signed up with a vet yet for a check up and his vaccinations? Many offer puppy socialisation classes which are a must. They can also give you worming tablets and flea and tick treatments.

Other than that you seem pretty sorted, you can always pick up things as you go along as well  ;)

Hi

I forgot about the cleaning stuff  :005: ... how could I forget that!

I was thinking about a car harness ... I suppose one for a small dog would be good for a cocker pup ... I'd get it checked thought to make sure its the right size

Charlie comes home on the Saturday morning, and on monday he's booked into the vets for his jabs, worming, flees .... the chip will be going in on his 12 weeks jabs.  The vet also runs a puppy class for all pups who have had their first vaccination at the surgery to start the socialising early :) ... and I'll be carrying him about too to get him used to traffic etc

I'll get some treats (the ones I picked up are puppy treats but only for 3 months onwards !!) so any recommendations are welcome.

In regards to bringing him home, my wife and daughter (3 year old) will be with me so my wife was going to have him snuggled in towels in a box on her lap so she could reassure him on the way home .... is this allowed / recommended ?

Thanks again
Phil

Yeah definatly have plenty of towels on the car journey home - just in case of car sickness :P. I sat with Toby on my lap when I brought him home :D

Good luck with Charlie, I agree with Nicola, plenty of Zoflora diluted in a spray bottle! You won't believe how much fun you are going to be having with your pup soon (the hard work will pass!). Pictures are gorgeous.

Hi

Thanks everyone, Andrea Im glad that this has helped someone else too ... thats what forums are all about  :)

I've ordered the crate, the perfect puppy book, the dog bowls arrived today, and im awaiting delivery of a soft toy like puppy that is filled with buckwheat (you heat it in the microwave so its like a hot water bottle) so Charlie does not miss all his litter mates too much

got a new mop and bucket today too ... ready for any accidents  ph34r

Im also training my daughter (3yo) using nintendogs on the DS

less than 2 weeks to go ... cant wait !

Oxfam is the place to get cuddlies - you can usually get them for £1 or less.  I just make sure they don't have loose eyes etc and are just stuffed with soft stuff and not beans in case they get chewed  >:(
