Harry's First Day At School
« on: January 19, 2005, 08:24:22 PM »
Harry went to his first ever training class tonight. The woman said not to worry if he didn't do very much because he'd be a bit overwhelmed. He wasn't. He did everything all the other dogs did and he did it with class!! He walked to heel, did a 'come' exercise, sat beautifully, met the training woman and sat looking at her with adoring eyes until she gave him a treat and a cuddle. He was amazing! We are very proud of him.

One question- they have a best trick competition every night. What do you think we should teach him to do so he wins the competition??? ;)

Clever wee sausage - you must be bursting with pride. For his next trick, try teaching him to take a bow. you know the front down, botty up lets play stance.

Well done, Harry!  It's good to hear that someone is upholding the honour of the cocker breed.  Last night at Dog School Tilly was called "a cocker of very little brain" and it was true     !  For some reason she wouldn't do anything and was very stubborn and uncooperative, not like her at all.  I think her brain was having a holiday :o !

You could try teaching Harry to spin, for some reason cockers seem to do this naturally  so it takes very little training :D .  If you're really ambitious you could teach him to spin in both directions (but not at the same time  !)

Even Molo - a pup with the reputation of "bred for beauty, not brains"  learnt to *twizzle* in one evening - its great as a party peice  :D

How about teaching *Shake* on command - not shake hands, but shaking water out of their coat  - its really useful for a cocker

We've taught Jessie to 'high 5'...its a great trick and everyone loves it.  :D

I think it cos she sits and touches your right hand with her left paw when you show her the hand and say high five !!

Those are all great ideas. What if we taught him to high 5, then spin around then take a bow?

I think we can manage spinning around- no idea how to teach him to take a bow??

He went for his first ever walk out on the street tonight- it was very interesting for him.
