Please help my puppy has roundworms :(
« on: October 28, 2012, 09:30:16 PM »
Waffles is 15 weeks now, he was due to be dewormed which we did today and they came out in his poo this evening. They look like noodles - from looking online I assume they are roundworms.
Really worried about my poor puppy :(
We don't know what steps we should take now, if he needs to go to the vets or if there is a good dewormer you can recommend which will clear it up?
We have noticed he was less interested in his food over the past few days but thought he may have gone off it, I guess he actually didn't want it because of the worms :/
We don't know how long he's had them (but I check his poos and they've all been clear till today).
He's our first dog and we have little knowledge of this subject so please help :(

Hi,

Poppy our second cocker had worms at about 10 or twelve Weeks and then again a few months later.  Only lasted short time, our vet told us to make sure worming medication was up to date and we kept areas thoroughly clean when they poop.

I think its more horrible to see than actually is...from my experience.  Worth calling vets to double check.

Wouldn't worry :)

Try not to worry, many pups have worms.  You say you gave him the dewormer and they came out. I know its not very nice to see but that is what the meds are meant to do. Talk to your vet especially if he is off his food and make sure that you give him regular worming meds as per the vets advice

If you've wormed him and worms come out then the wormer is doing its job (have seen this many a time with rescue pups) - make sure you always use a vet wormer and not a petshop wormer. Often with pups who are full of worms it can be best to use something like panacur over 3 days so they don't cause a blockage (if they all come out at once). Being worm bound can make them unwell so its best you're seeing your vet

Thanks we went to the vets today and got Milbemax, 2 tablets to use tomorrow.
Was surprised she didn't give us more, but am hoping it cleans him out!   :020:
I was so worried but the vet said its common in pups  :003:

Very common in pups  :-\  As has been said, if the worms are coming out, then the wormer is working :020:

Don't worry, the wormer will sort him out - it looks awful but he will be fine in a few days.   ;)

Now a bit concerned that the tablets have made him constipated!
He went for one poo yesterday morning... he normally goes for one after every meal and hes eaten 3 meals since then and no poos!

You don't need more really as too many can affect their gut lining
