Title: Show cockers - with short coat?

Hopefully this doesn’t look completely awful of me and I feel rather embarrassed even asking, but can someone tell me if my dog is a show or WCS?

The breeder says show and I had no reason to think otherwise - but certificates just say ‘Cocker spaniel’ . Anyway I had no reason to second guess but today on a walk (or an attempted walk if you are familiar with our walking problems) someone was saying he isn’t a show as his coat is too short?

Now I’m here second guessing. I don’t mind either way, but as the personalities can have some differences it’s just good to know at the very least(?!)

I assumed that some shows have longer coats maybe and some just don’t. I’m one of these people who over think every thing so thus finding myself writing this rather embarrassing post! :luv:

Post by: bizzylizzy on January 16, 2021, 04:00:18 PM: He looks like show to me. Humphrey‘s coat (he’s also gold) has always been relatively short, I think they do vary but he‘s a beautiful boy whatever line he is!

Thank you for replies. You know that way where someone plants an idea then you can’t stop thinking about it? I was told he’s a show but it just got me thinking. I suppose he does have a rather short coat compared to a lot.

You might find it gets a bit longer as he matures but a shorter coat does at least have the advantage of being a little easier to look after. ;)

It's possible there is a bit of worker in his pedigree somewhere or he could just be a short coated one. I wouldn't worry about it or what other people say. I had someone swear blind that my last cocker was a poodle :005: Who cares if you're happy with him. ;)

Either way, he is gorgeous :luv: and the short coat is an absolute blessing in this weather. I'm having to bath my hairy boy every day at the moment >:D

He looks very much like my Rhodri did when he was younger.

His coat is much longer now. He’s a show cocker but I do believe there’s worker in his family tree.

He’s gorgeous but I suppose I’m biased!
