Title: second puppy training class tonight.
Post by: Honormum on November 12, 2012, 10:22:22 PM
First class was a fortnight ago, when Teddy couldn't go on the floor because he hadn't had his vaccs - so he watched instead.

Tonight was his first time on the floor, and all the other puppies are much older - the oldest is 6 months. I've worked really hard on his sit-stays and his down-stays this last week, and that's what we were working on in class.
He was fab! So focused and enthusiastic. :D
The trainer came over and said (in a nice way),"you know, he won't always be goody two shoes and top of the class - you watch, he'll be really naughty at some point!" :005: :005:

So chuffed with his progress. Having had a lab who was a bit of a handful in her younger days, it's so nice to have a bright, willing puppy. :luv:

Excellent news! And there's no reason why he shouldn't stay good! I've been amazed at how responsive my puppy is in classes - he behaves well and concentrates and I always feel so proud. I'd say cockers are pretty east to train with kibble and treats, which helps a lot. Just had our 6th and last class tonight, although the trainer is going to organise a day in Wiltshire (we're in London) so he can get a certificate - can't wait, as he enjoys it so much.

Hope Teddy continues to be top of the class!

I agree, well done Teddy and theres no reason why he might not always be like this.
When we first started our training class they recommended the pups were no older than 19 weeks, it was much better them all being at similar stages. ,
6 month old pups are soon to start adolescence , which makes them at different stages, Your doing best getting Teddy socialised at such a young age.

They usually run a puppy class 12-20 weeks, and then another class for dogs 20 weeks and over that haven't done any training. After that it's KC Good Citizen etc. Sadly, there wasn't enough uptake for the older puppies class - so they had to combine the 2.

Teddy was a bit overwhelmed initially -he's the smallest by far and only just walking on the lead, so he was sloping around with his tail between his legs...and when an enormous Ridgeback barked in the competitive obedience class, I thought he was going to die! :005:
However, he soon found his confidence. :D

The trainer is really good, so I think we'll get loads out of the course.
