Teething and Bleeding Gums
« on: August 17, 2011, 11:19:28 AM »
Not sure whether this should be in health or not but I'll post here for now.

Toby is 21 weeks old and teething.  While I was cleaning his teeth today (using a soft brush and puppy toothpaste) I noticed blood on the brush.  I thought this probably natural as he is teething, but when I inspected a bit closer, the blood seemed to be coming from above a tooth which he cut about 2 -3 weeks ago.  Is this normal?  Surely he can't have gum disease.  So I'm a bit worried at the moment.  Any advice would be welcome, thanks.

I think it's much more likely to be caused by the gum still being tender from the new tooth coming through rather than gum disease, or perhaps you accidentally brushed that area a bit too firmly or he moved and the toothbrush knocked the area.

Thanks elaine - I'm hoping that's all it is.  Will keep a watch over it though.
