Another late hello.
« on: April 04, 2021, 08:48:49 PM »
Hi everybody and Happy Easter!

After many months of research we collected our ECS pup a couple of days ago and are settling in to a very different routine. This forum has been enormously helpful and led us safely to a new chapter in our lives. Thank you for all the posts and the sharing of your experiences, we used your knowledge and checked everything we could. We have a beautiful, confident yet calm and permanently wagging tailed 8 week old who we are naming tonight.
What a lovely community this is.

Thank you.
John.

Hello and thanks for your lovely welcomes!

I hugely underestimated how lively/inquisitive a puppy is, we haven’t had time to name her and must tonight; time has flown, she has kept us both on our toes! I hadn’t planned to start training for a few days, thought she’d need ‘settle in ‘ time but I was wrong as she’s enjoying it. I hope we’re doing it right, she’s bouncy, tail wagging, snuggly when tired.
Cazza, Ash is beautiful, tonight’s not my turn for 3am peegate so I’m looking forward to reading how you’re getting on!

I’m so glad you’re all here, this is the best thing I’ve ever done but I’m a bit nervous at the same time!  :005:

Morning John, hope you enjoyed your non peegate night  :shades:

Ash goes to her crate at 10pm now and is let out again about 12.30am and sleeps through til 6.30am

We are slowly letting her out earlier - we started with her being let out every 2 hours and then slowly over 2 weeks have reduced it later this week will will try 12am and see if she can go to 6.30am without a mess in her crate.

Training wise - we have worked on sit, down, come and on lead in the garden. Have also taken her out in the car every 3 days if not every day. Have socialised her with cars / tractors / lorries going past. She has been to see horse, chickens and cows. Not done sheep yet as they are lambing

Ash got her second jag on Monday so looking forward to taking her out and being able to put her down while socialising her with all the above next and meeting some friends with dogs

Hello lovely people, I really appreciate your help and tips. I think we’re on the right path and settling into a routine that works. I took time off work (which when your self employed means work has backed up and I have a huge backlog to try and do in the early hours!) which was needed.

However Peanut is growing quickly and going through the night in her cage which I moved to the bedroom, still left the door open and so far we’ve had two full night’s sleep! She’s a lot better with biting and has had her second jab so we are allowed out on Thursday for ten mins.

I’ve spent hours reading through the years of info on here and am glad I found you, I’ve found everything I’ve needed with the search facility.

Caz, how is Ash doing and do you have any pictures plz?  :luv:

John.

Thanks for the update, so pleased to hear that things are going well, the pleasure of puppyhood is being able to celebrate every little step forward.
COL is indeed a mine of good information and, as opposed to a lot of other information on the internet, is based on experience with cockers.   :shades:
Glad you found us too  ;), look forward to more updates on Peanut!  :luv:

Thanks Jayne, I think I’m addicted to this forum and Peanut! My family are making jokes about my new interests as all I talk about is Cocker food, Cocker fur, Cocker teeth and Cocker poo!
Peanut is allowed out tomorrow, I can’t wait! I’m hoping she gets up early as we’re having breakfast in the woods!

At some point soon I’m going to have to decide to work or retire! I wish I’d been this excited about the children although I’ll keep that admission for here only!  ;) :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

The first bodywiggle of the day melts me, as do all the rest!  :luv:

I overheard my elder son talking to a friend „ she worries more about the dog‘s food than ever she did about ours and when I go to visit she calls out „look Humphrey, here‘s your big brother“
I slunk away guiltily and pretended I hadn’t heard!!  :005: :005:

Hi John, sounds like Peanut is doing well  :luv:

Will get some more pictures up soon. Ash is doing ok we are working on ‘Stay’ at the moment she’s not getting it the treat is obviously so much better than I thought she runs to my hand (I am still only using her kibble for treats  :shades: )

I can go to the downstairs bathroom on my own though  :shades: not sure how this has happened but not knocking it - she follows me as far as the door and I open it and she sits down  :luv: however when I come out again you’d think I had been away all day  :005:

Took her to see horses and tractors yesterday, at least this time she wasn’t shaking

How’s work going and looking after Peanut? I am dreading next week as I will be working and looking after Ash on my own and madam has decided she’s not keen on joining me in the study - thinking I may have to move to the kitchen table  :005:
