Title: When did your's start humping/ lifting leg?
Post by: Holly2009 on January 08, 2013, 02:19:48 PM
So, Dougal is 7 months doesn't hump a thing or lift his leg  :-\

I'm thinking he may have a bit of hairdresser in him  :005: temperament wise he is the soppyiest sappiest most obedient boy, amazing with our boys & loves our cat, if he didn't like to chew 'everything' he would be perfect
He's never really acted like a pup, he's a very odd boy, he flops down in your arms like a baby & looks straight in your eyes. God I love him but he's like nothing I've ever met before

When did/ do your boys hump / first lift their legs?

William is now 10+ months and has been given to a little recreational humping for around three months.

Only this week I thought I detected a half cock on a couple of ocassions, but this right of passage for young cocker dogs has yet to be properly confirmed.

We are watching him closely :005:

4 1/2 months for leg cocking - I was devastated that my puppy had turned into a dog

Mine doesn't hump except after he's smelt a bitch in season then the sofa gets a bit of a session, he's 7.  He's had a couple of misdirected love affairs with neutered bitches and one neutered dog but the common denominator was that they were all on painkillers :dunno:

Recreational humping  :005:

Can dogs be non interested in the 'jiggy jiggy'?

He 'will' be getting neutered & has both his little mini eggs, I think as my first own dog I was expecting him to be more 'dog' like bless him, still time I'm sure.

(A couple of his brothers use to hump toys at 8 weeks before they flew the nest)

yes they can be non-interested but even when they are neutered some are still VERY interested - it's not that uncommon for a neutered dog to tie with a bitch in season  ;)

Charlie was 10month before he cocked his leg (but was about 8month before he regularly wee'd on walks). He doesn't hump, he did a few times with my mams draft excluder but he hasn't done it for almost a year.

Rufus started to cock his leg at 7.5 months, still very wobbly and sometimes wee's down his legs.

Humping.......hasn't shown any real interest yet.

Dennis has not tried humping yet, even though Minnie and Rosie have propositioned him a few times.

HOWEVER..... he can cock for England  >:D  >:D  >:D  >:D

Monty has never humped anything. He is neutered (at 11 months) but just never shown any interest. He first cocked his leg at about 7 months I think, but only when out on a walk, always squats in the garden!

we got sandon at 8 weeks and he was prety much humping things then!!
He still humps everything in site if given half the chance!!! he is almost 8 months and has just started cocking his leg although he tends to squat for longer wee's!!!

Funny how they are all different.

Why do boys lift their legs anyhow? Anyone know the reason? Is it so they can mark things! Think I answered that myself lol

cocked around 7 months however only done it a few times would rather squat. & the humping at 9 weeks once. Stoped for ages did a bit around 8 months just before we got him done, with just a bit of lipsticking. Now at 10months we get the awful fully out  :020: humping his blanket, i thought he would have stopped since we got him done. Hope it stops soon, he just gets a firm no.

I really was starting to worry my baby was one of these youngsters that the statistics tell ya about  :005: :005: as I seemed the only one to post theirs humping at a few wks old. Glad to see at least a couple more are saying theirs started to hump at the same tender age....
Is this dominance humping (these things are mine!!!) or is it part of excitable play (some dogs hump to subdue?)...can anyone tell me?  :lol2:
He was humping awfully last night, at 13wks!!, he has been given my old fluffy dressing gown for this....the arm-loving was err rubbing me up the wrong way...  :005: ph34r

Ozzy has just this week started cocking his leg, and he's 8 months old today - I'm not sure that he produces anything when he does it though. It's just when he's out on his walk, both on and off the lead. He still squats like a girly in the garden though.  I'm assuming that this is because there have been no other dogs weeing in our garden for him to want to cock his leg over the same place.  Incidentally, he has two retained testicles and I thought the he'd never lift his leg, but it seems that it makes no difference to his maturing.

Henry's 8 months and has never cocked. He was neutered just over a month ago and nothing has changed behaviour-wise (except slightly more jumpy with traffic noises).

He has always humped his snugglepuppy toy from day 1 (9 weeks old), particularly straight after eating or the bath! Nothing else has ever been humped in the house, although he's occasionally tried to hump other dogs in the park, but only very half-heartedly. A few months ago we went to see his breeder who had a litter of 6-week old Irish setter puppies and one of them was humping Henry - very amusing! Some dogs are clearly early starters. Henry often gets attempted humps from a large docile retriever - practically buries the poor wee fella!

Our last cocker sounds a bit like Dougal - totally docile and loving, barely ever cocked his leg, NEVER humped a thing in his long life, was the easiest pup ever, and was just wonderful (except for sock-stealing-and-guarding tendencies and rotten teeth!). Dougal sounds lovely to me!

Molly started humping Paige (9 year old lab/collie cross) when she was 5 months old! She waits until Paige is laid down then jumps on her back.  I think it's a dominance thing because Paige also tries to do it with Molly although it doesn't quite work with the size difference  :005:

humping is about dominance - bitches and dogs do it - its not necessarily about 'sex'

Weird how they are all so different isn't it. He is very special...he was never in our plan, we were meant to keep one girl from Holly's litter (Storm, she's such a pup & so glad we chose her, she's such a little girl) but Dougal from when he was teeny use to sit amongst his siblings gazing up at you while they rolled about biting & chewing each other.

Neither Charlie or Toby have ever humped at all.... :005: Took my two ages to start cocking their legs too.... must be lazy boys.  Toby's only just recently started cocking his leg properly and he is two in March  :shades:

I am pleased to report that for the first time William has done a full leg cock at 44 weeks of age.

The object of his attention, a frozen mole hill. A rights of passage achieved, now if only his other little nut would descend, all would be complete :D

Harry was humping from the day we got him at 8 weeks, which I was amazed at. Then he went period of nothing, then other dogs would try and hump him and full circle he's started humping again. Also in the mornings I am privileged to have a wagging tail and the lipstick out to greet me, but OH doesn't seem to arouse the same feelings from him.

He's just had the snip today so not sure whether he'll hump anymore or less. As for cocking his leg for a scoot, at 7 months he's yet to do it.
