Hi
My name is Phil and I've just put a deposit down on a gold cocker male pup who we've decided to call Charlie
My wife is at home fulltime with our 3 year old daughter so it seems like the ideal time to bing a dog into our life
this is our first dog, although my dad has 3 springers and has had dogs for many years (so I know its not all plain sailing)

Hello Phil welcome to COL...good luck with your new pup :D

Hi Phil & congrats on nearly owning a cocker! :shades: I have the lovely Molly who is a 2 year old Blue Roan & Tan and the new addition 9 week old Honey who is an Orange Roan. Look forward to seeing some photos of Charlie and sharing our stories soon! When do you pick Charlie up?

Hi
Charlie arrives in 3 weeks time (3 weeks yesterday)
cant wait !
any hints and tips are more than welcomed :)

You'll find plenty of hints and tips throughout this forum - everyone on here have been brilliant with me, so friendly and have given sooooo much advice! Its really addictive though so be warned!
My only tip would be, as i'm a new puppy owner myself, is if possible dont use newspaper to toilet train Charlie. I've found that Honey has learned very quickly that she has to go outside to do her business and is now after only 2 weeks nearly house trained. Just by keeping a very close eye on her and taking her out every 20 mins has been a blessing. Molly has only been totally house trained for about 6 months and she's now 2 and i'm positive it was because we used newspaper and it just confused her!

that makes sense, thanks Lucy :)
got to get back to getting the house ready ! ... not long to go now

Hi and welcome.
How excited are you getting now?
I'd recommend getting a copy of "The Perfect Puppy" by Gwen Bailey, and if possible "The Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson. Both brilliant books. The first one being the most useful at your stage!

Hi and welcome to COL. Its a great place to be if ever you need advice on anything not just cocker related. I look forward to your pics of Charlie.
