Getting puppy used to a lead

Could anyone recommend how I get Arthur used to his lead please. He just bites it and pulls away from me. I realise it's strange for him so don't want to freak him out. Any ideas?

I'm no expert, but I let Maya run round the garden with the lead to get used to it, then I held the end and encouraged her to follow me by coaxing her with food! Seems to have worked as she is good on the lead, if a little keen
