Just had a phone call from the vet nurse to say that everything went well and William is coming round from the anaesthetic. I can't collect him until 4.30 because they want to make sure he's wide awake and has eaten a light meal successfully, but they're very pleased with him so far. They had a bit of trouble finding a vein in one front leg to take bloods, so had to try the other one, but that's not a new problem with him.
All three lumps have been sent off for histology (is that the right word?) simply because the charge of about £60 covers up to three, and although we already know the fatty lump is harmless the vet is looking for legal ways to weight as much of the bill as possible towards the fatty lump because William's insurance excess is so high. Will had already seen the vet three times to have the lump checked and measured, plus it will have been the longest part of the procedures today so they can genuinely attribute much of the anaesthesia, nurse time and vet time to it. I won't get anything from my insurers for the eye and gum lumps because a separate excess will apply to each of those and although William's insurance premium barely increased on renewal in August they hiked his excess for new conditions up to £200!
Looking forward to getting my boy home and spending time holding his paw and nursing him and feeding him little meals of scrambled egg this evening. I expect I'll be sleeping downstairs with him tonight just to keep an eye on him.
