Don't worry he will have you trained in no time at all!

I also wondered at what point you will be letting him upstairs to sleep if he is going to became an alert buddy for your daughter?

We have been told to train him first before starting the awareness training or it will be too much in one go :)

I promise you, it does get better.  It's hard going at first, but you'll soon be on the other side.

Stick to routine and try to keep strong and it will soon be over.  Reese was by far the worse pup I have ever had for this, he screamed for about a week all night then it would be when he first went to bed for about half an hour, when he needed a wee( but i did learn the difference in cries and would let him out for this without making a fuss) and when he wanted to get up ( anywhere from 4am) but this only went on for about another week. Others I had were usually fine after a few nights.

3rd night we had to improvise as we had some loose motions after worming, so pulled his cage up against the stair gate so he could go on a puppy mat in the kitchen.

I slept in the hallway, plugged in the radio and nightlight, we still had a few whimpers but I suppose were getting there

He did go back to bed when I told him too, when it wasn't time for toilet
