Wow, what a journey so far
« on: January 04, 2017, 11:48:20 AM »
Been quite a while since I've posted on here, but sitting here thinking that my lovely boy Charlie is going to be 1year in a weeks time!
All I can say is What a journey it's been so far! Ups, downs, highs, lows, my boy really has given me a crazy time since I got him home at 8 weeks old.
For any1 on this puppy section who are having problems, just know with consistency and effort you will get through the other side. I've had plenty of testing times with Charlie since we bought him home, ranging from the infamous cockerdile stage (where he was a complete nightmare), pulling like a train on walks, not always returning when called, being totallly bonkers and out of control around other dogs, frustration biting, barking like crazy in the car, going crazy with excitement and nipping at guests in our home, picking up and eating everything on walks.. All of which are now under some sort of control (not all totally sorted). Having learned ways to deal with him as an individual, and also learning not to expect perfection and that he is after all an excitable little cocker, we have made huge progress, and the relationship we have is now so good that we couldn't be without one another.
Keep it up puppy owners.

Well done on your journey. I think it makes the bond better between you and your dog when you have to spend time and energy on training. Keep up the good work x

That's such a lovely update and so reassuring to anyone else just starting out on the very exciting journey of cockerhood!! I really think you've summed it up it one : learning to treat him as an individual and learning not to expect perfection, are probably the two most important keys to a happy relationship. I don't think many if us first time cocker owners were quite prepared for the madness of the first year, but we're probably all in agreement that its all been worth it!!! Have a lovely birthday Charlie!  :luv:

Thank you, I so needed to read this today, good to know there's light & hope at the end of the tunnel, I was starting to wonder if we'd got ourselves a faulty one  :005: fingers crossed our wild crazy bat dog will eventually settle, like yours, even if only slightly.
Happy birthday Charlie, he's gorgeous.
