Poorly Sonny
« on: October 28, 2005, 09:57:20 AM »
Hi all,

I only joined COL a couple of days ago, and made my indroductions, but I thought that I would post on here as a wondered if anyone could give me any advice as to what to expect.

My little eight week old Chocolate Roan has the parvovirus, although the vet hasn't had the test results back yet.

Just to recap to anyone who has not read my posts on Introductions, I picked Sonny up on Saturday afternoon, and he was fine over the weekend, took Sonny to the vets on Wednesday as he had started with sickeness and dioreah, the vet kept him in to rehydrate him, and things have just gone from bad to worse.

I've not slept all night thinking the worst, but the little fighter is still hanging on.

I have read everything I can on various websites about this virus and it sounds terrible.

You must be worried sick :(

Parvovirus is a horrible infection and it is very distressing to see a pup with it. You have done the right thing in getting him to the vet so quickly and hopefully his body will start making its own antibodies to help fight the parvovirus.

Has your vet ruled out any infestation of parasites?

Hope he starts to respond to treatment soon

Healing vibes being sent

Take care

Sorry I can't offer any advice, although I do know of somebody whos lab pup contracted Parvo and was really on deaths door but she pulled through and is as fit as a fiddle now.

Have you spoken to the breeder who you bought the pup from?

Hope little Sonny hangs in there I am sure the vets will be doing everything in there power to help him recover,  thinking of you both.

Parvo is very serious but if caught and treated early enough they can and do make it through although you it won;t stop you worrying until Sonny is better.

You really must contact the breeder to let them know what is happening. If it does turn out to be Parvo she/he needs to let all the other buyers of puppies from this litter know and also get their dogs checked out too.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Do let us know any developments.

Oh no - you must be so worried about him - I hope he makes a full and fast recovery.

Like Pammy suggests I'd contact the breeder straight away.

Thinking of you.

Spoke to the breeder last night and she was really upset, she still has all the other pups except one and she was going to contact the owner to see how it was.

Sonny is on a drip, and is being given antibiotics and painkillers, he is very depressed and looks awful, it is heartbreaking to see him like this, I came out of the vets in tears yesterday.

I am hoping that if he has managed to fight this virus for the last few days, and he is getting all the treatment he needs, he is slowly getting stronger and he will pull through.
