« on: March 14, 2006, 09:36:23 AM »
Hi, I am Carrie and my husbands name is Michael and we are waiting for our first Cocker who will arrive in 13 days! We don't have a name for her yet but we are still thinking! Will be looking at advice to help her settle and not sure whether to get a puppy 'cage' or not? Lovely to have found the site, its very encouraging.

Carrie - a big welcome to CoL.

I highly recommend you have a good scour round the whole site particularly the FAQs and the Puppies section. Also get yourslef a copy of Gwen Baileys book The Perfect Puppy.

If you have any specific questions please ask away - post them in the relevant part of the forum  ;)

Enjoy the peace before the typhoon arrives :005:

Hi and welcome to COL.

How exciting, look forward to seeing piccies of the new arrival soon.  Sleepless nights? Milo still jumps on our heads in the middle of the night, just to remind us he's there!  >:D  He's 9 months old now and he was actually pretty good at sleeping through the night from an early age.  A crate was a godsend though and pretty much can be for life, there were quite a few occasions when I used  a crate for our previous Cocker who was 9 when he came to live with us

Hope the next 13 days don't drag too slowly!

Hi and welcome to COL! You have so much to look forward to - I have just been out for a nice active walk with my 5 month old and far from being tired he's tearing round and round the living room snatching up everything he can find!  We've had the greatest fun ever since we got Clive.

We don't have a crate but we do have a puppy pen and it's been invaluable. He loves it and sees it as his safe zone, and it gives us peace of mind! Also, I second the advice on getting Gwen Bailey's book, we've used it loads.

Look forward to seeing pics once she's arrived.

Thanks again for all your 'encouragement!' Think we sure really enjoy these 13 days! Just to give you a bit more info.-my husband is disabled though not in a wheel chair so guess who will be doing all the hard work! Mind from what I read, for the first 6 months there are no walkies just 'gentle leisure' or am I wrong.

Will get 'the book' and think I've now been convinced of getting a crate.

Right-we are going to use a crate. Seems like most think its a must! Will get The Perfect Puppy
and learn before we get her! If all goes according to plan then it will be great but from reading between the lines and the lines themselves I'm not sure pup will have the same idea! Perhaps I should let her read the book!

Hi and welcome,

we have a 10 week old blue roan called Alfie.  Waiting the 6 weeks to take him home seemed like a lifetime and I read everything going but putting it into practice is never as easy as I'm sure you can imagine!  Still Alfie is doing really well and we couldn't imagine life without him!

Hi and welcome.

We have a 10 week old working cocker called Tiggy - a crate is a must - the best thing I ever bought (apart from my dishwasher - not dog related obviously!)  We also have a 10 month old German Wirehaired Pointer and he also has a crate.  My husband says not more, as we won't fit the crates in the kitchen!!

Best of luck - !! :005:
