Not sure on books just for working cockers, is monty going to actually work? If so there are working dog books out there ;)

'Working gun dogs'  by Martin Deeley    was recommended to me by a fellow COLer

As for fully grown then, as with everything else every dog is different but I would say by about 11 / 12 months they are fully grown but don't quote me on that. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along to give you better info ;)

do you mean physically or mentally? :005:

Most hit their full adult height between 9 months and 1 year, then fill out after that.Cockers aren't really considered physically mature till around 2 years, give or take, depending on the pedigree.

Martin Deeleys book is excellent, though it does address all flushing spaniels, I don't know of any that are just working cockers. You may also be interested in the old (pre-1950's) books on cockers, they delve a lot on the workers, as they were the origin of the breed. E-Bay is a great place to look.

Our barney is nearly 15 months and hasn't done much growing since he was a year old.  he has maybe filled out a wee bit but is quite a slim jim and i think he's stopped growing now  :D

I would say that Dashy got there somewhere between 18 months to two years, both physically and mentally ;)
Cockers (working or show) dont really ever grow up mentally tho do they :luv:  :005:

Another lovely book is 'The cocker man', by Hadley Millington who was the founder of the Nancarrow line of cockers. Its not so much a training manual as the story of a man who loves his dogs and the stuff they got up to.

One of my fave's :D

mine hit adult size at around 10 months and was just on 10.2kgs then - after steadily building muscle he is now 12.9kgs, and has stabilised at that weight.

I thought that Ben had stopped growing in height at around 12 months (he's nearly 18 months now).  I bumped into someone the other day who swears he's grown even taller!  He is starting to fill out now - his chest is getting broader and deeper and he looks more 'square' from the front instead of narrow and leggy  :shades:

we're pretty sure that barkley hasn't grown in height since he was about 10 months old. he's now 12 months old and his physique is definitely still developing- he's filling out and getting more feathering. but then he has always been quite a stocky lad- there are others on here who are much slimmer. mentally, he's definitely still growing and is changing all the time. :)

If you are talking mentally, Molly (almost 10) and Tess (almost 9) are as daft as they were as youngsters.  :005:

They're a bit like us - the mind is willing but the body takes a little more time to catch up!.

Working Cockers : Molly (11), Tess ( 10 ) - still as mad as ever
