Personally I'm not into kennelling pet dogs outside - why have them otherwise?

Completely agree. Sammy is just a baby, this is just a phase (hopefully  :005: ) as he gets older he will learn & will eventually be able to be left alone without destroying or chewing anything. What's happened today is just part & parcel of having a puppy I'm afraid.

Couldn't agree more ;)

When we looked at first dog from rescue it was a terrier (unknown type/mix) but mum was furious we were even considering a terrier as they can be nasty. We refused to accept such a sweeping statement and brought it home to find if it had got either the cat or the rabbit it would have ripped them to shreds.  Obviously it had to return to the rescue but we found out it had probably been used for badger baiting or similar so we onto a looser with all our furry friends. >:(

We've had damage done by both dogs, at the moment they are dismantling a chair in the conservatory that was left for them - guess if they are happy chewing that they are leaving my suite alone, learnt the hard way about giving too much space when I am out and even got to stage of thinking about outside run when Jasper initially came and chewed lots of things. ;)

Hope you are cleared up soon  :005:

You mean that little  in your avatar did all that?  I find that hard to believe  :005:

If it's any consolation to you I think we've all come home to such scenes of devastation at leas once in our dog owning careers  >:(

I agree, get as much info as you possibly can about the terr(i)or first. However if you feel that you really can't cope with another dog right now you have no obligation to take it. Everyone has to be on the same page, especially the person who will end up doing the most work  :shades:

:005: He sure had fun didn't he. He must have been like a tornado zipping through your home and trying out all the things he'd never done. >:D

the story continues.........................
i now know why my OH wanted this dog so badly (it's a lakeland x border BTW way wrong yest) he split up from his wife a few years ago and she is the one rehoming the dog!!! he has no contact with her whatso ever and left the dog behind when he left. he has said in the past that he wished he'd taken her with him and he wondered if she still had her. well now he's heard from the grapevine that she's rehoming her. he desperatly wants her!
now i'm really confused and don't know what to do, we obviously have to agree but sammy is my first dog and feel like i'm just getting to grips with the one let alone too! help

mmhhhh it's a difficult one.

Could you not maybe have the dog on a trial basis perhaps?

It is a difficult decision but Sammy is still a pup & you still have the joy of adolescence to go through so personally I wouldn't want to commit myself to another dog yet awhile! ;)

I do like terriers; our house-guest, Rooney, is a Cairn & a sweeter, more easy-going little chap you couldn't wish to meet but he is about 8/9 years old & has been well trained & socialised so he fits in with our dogs very well. I have also considered a Border Terrier as our next dog; we are both undecided as I know Borders have a reputation for taking themselves off & disappearing down holes after rabbits (a bit like Spike but fortunately he is too large to actually get down the rabbit hole - not for want of trying!! :005:) Apparently they do have good temperaments though.

Personally I would never kennel a dog outside; I really can't see the point of having dogs & shutting them away from the family activities; JIMO & I know our dogs are horribly spoilt!!  ;) ph34r

Good luck with whatever you decide - remember should your sister forget again to shut the baby-gate you'll have two dogs creating mayhem in your house!! ;) :005:
