New Member with 12 week old Sprocker :)

Hi everybody,
Acquired Mutley as a family pet 2 days ago and have to say he really is lovely! Its my first experience with a Spaniel of any description. He will already sit, fetch and drop when I tell him, and is part toilet trained although we are still having a few accidents. I was worried he would cry all night but I put him in his crate with his bed, blanket and teddy and when I switch off the light he curls up and goes straight to sleep! His mum is a springer and dad a golden cocker (both pets). Mutley is liver and white and really handsome to look at! He is really playful but will also come and sleep at my feet when I'm watching tv at night. He loves the kids too!!
So far I've been really impressed by his good behaviour and I hope he keeps it up, but after reading some posts on other sites, some of the opinions on Sprockers have been a bit negative, talk of behaviour problems aggression etc and now I am a little worried. Before I got him I read up on both Springers and Cockers and both were decribed as good natured, easy to train and good with children etc. Being a mix of the 2 I assumed the same would apply and Mutley seems great at the moment, but now I'm worried that we will have problems in the future with him? So if anyone has any advice or experience with this I would be very grateful.
Many thanks,
Jenny and Mutley

Edited to add: Have uploaded a picture into my avatar, Mutley is on the right, pictured with his littermate Chubbs who is black and white.

Welcome to the site, I'm sure Mutley is lovely.

I guess with a cross you never know what part of each dog you will get.

I have a lab type cross called Jasmine and you couldn't fault her temperament. I think you'll find that there are lots of people with all types of dogs that have behaviour problems and aggression whether they are pure breed pedigrees or mongrels. I think the owners and environment have a key part to play with the development of any puppy as well as the dog itself.

Good luck with Mutley and remember to post a piccie,

Emily

Hi Mutleys Mum

If Mutley turns out to be anything like our last dog Daisy, a blue roan sprocker spaniel, you will be well pleased with her. She was such a loving, friendly, intelligent and loyal little girl and was always one step ahead of me. Never had to teach her anything , she just seemed to know what I wanted her to do. In her eleven and a half years she showed no sign of aggression whatsoever to anyone.  I never personally  saw her as a crossbread, just the best of both worlds. (spaniel X spaniel =spaniel?)
We have Millie now (blue roan cocker) and we think the world of her but I am sure you will be just as proud of Mutley. Good luck

Hello and welcome to the board :D

I have no experience of sprockers, but I did, many years ago, have a springer collie cross, and she was a fantastic dog  :luv:

Really

Harry is 10 months now and is a boisterous, energetic young dog.  We take him to dog training and socialise him well.  We have so far never experienced any aggression from him - other than normal puppy biting, and food guarding - both have been very easy to stop before they became a problem.  He is very loving towards all the family, including our two children aged 8 and 4.  I wouldn't change him for the world

The only negative talk I constantly hear about is the breeding for demand of them and the so called 'designer-dogs' issues  ::)

I wouldn't worry continue enjoying him and concentrate on making him a nice dog to be with  :luv:
Harry the Sprocker - crossbreed I know, but still gorgeous !

Hi everyone here is a link to a pic

http://s186.photobucket.com/albums/x190/MutleysMum/?action=view&current=Mutley.jpg

Please let me know if it doesn't work that was my first time  ;)

Phillyknickers; Harry looks very similar to Mutley I reckon, its nice to see what Mutley's likely to look like in a few months.

People do seem to have a problem with the breeding of these dogs I've noticed that too, but at the end of the day, I didn't choose him as a designer dog but a family pet and so far he's been a model puppy- hope he's not lulling us into a false sense of security  :005:  In the same way that we brought home our firstborn from hospital and he was all sleepy and angelic from the pethidine I'd had in labour- but then it wears off  ;) :005:
No Mutley actually reminds me of my first born, who was always really laid back and old before his time- my son was born aged 40 (is 11 now and older than me  ;)) Mutley seems like an older dog in a young body. We all adore him  :luv:
