Had to take Misty to the emergency vets this morning as she started showing signs of having pyometra last night. The vet took blood tests and a couple of X-Rays and although there was nothing conclusive about them, the vet thinks she's almost certainly got pyometra.
It's something I've been paranoid about since Loraine's Candy had it about a year ago - if it wasn't for Loraine telling me about her experience I doubt I'd have been so quick to spot the signs. Misty's back home with me and we are going to my own vet first thing tomorrow for an ultrasound, followed by a probable emergency spay. As it's not too long since her season the vet thought it best to have the ultrasound rather than give her a hysterectomy straight away... he says that there's a chance it could be helped by antibiotics in the short term with a spay in a month or so when it's safer. I've to take her back to the emergency vets again at about 2am though, for an injection. She could have stayed overnight at the vets to save me a trip there in the middle of the night but I thought she'd be happier coming home - and anyway, driving across London in the rush hour to collect her tomorrow would have been a nightmare, it took me 90 mins to get there today.
I have to say, although she's currently very subdued from the sedative, Misty's taken it a lot better than I have, she's been a brave little angel whereas my bottom lip has been wobbling all day. I feel a lot better now though... the vet was great and did an excellent job of reassuring the anxious Dad... I was struggling to hold back tears when speaking to him.
Thanks to Mary and Loraine for listening to me blethering away on the phone today - you were both a great help.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
