Working English Cocker Spaniel (chocolate)
« on: December 21, 2007, 11:45:04 AM »
Just got my new Working English Cocker Spaniel yesterday :D

Mum is a chocolate working cocker spaniel - she's had working and show parents
Dad is Red Roan working cocker spaniel - no info on his parents

He is a chocolate/liver colour

We had a vote as to what to call him from wookiee, yogi and marley
These were the results

1st place YOGI with 22 votes
2nd place MARLEY with 19 votes
3rd place WOOKIEE with 8 vote

Therefore his name will be YOGI

We got him yesterday morning, ate all his dinner. Tail hasn’t stopped wagging
He is getting on really well with smudge (our 2 year ols Beagle) and keeps giving her the odd lick on the ear. Noisy last night, but only for the first 20 minutes or so, then settle to sleep.

Well he's up bright and this morning and full of life and tail is continually wagging !!!!!!
He's taken a liking to everyone and seems at ease already, still early days I know but he looks to be very responsive and bright.

Have to watch carefully with the toilet training, but he seems eager to learn things quickly.

He is seeing the vet this afternoon, and I will let you know how he gets on.

I will post some pictures when I get chance ( breathing space )

I only have this one for now

Welcome to COL and Yogi looks very cute  :luv:

If his Mum had a show type parent then she's a working/show cross and Yogi is a quarter show type as well so he may show some show type characteristics such as a heavier coat than most workers although genetics are a lottery so likewise he may not!

Did his breeder give you a copy of his pedigree? You'll be able to find out his sire's breeding from there.

Welcome - he does look lovely.

Jake is the opposite - 3/4 show and 1/4 working (mum was half working).

This is my Coco at 8 weeks - she is show type though there are a couple of working types a little way back in her pedigree (I think that is where the liver colour comes from) She soon lost the white patch on her chest so now she is solid liver  :luv:

This is her now at 2 and a bit  - she is a hairy little bear  :luv:

Everyone here has beautiful Cocker Spaniels.

It amazes me how different one type of breed can look. The differents between the working and the show. yet I presume the characturistics are very simular.

Yogi seems to be very responsive and he likes to please and to be priased, he is getting on great with Smudge and they cuddle up together already.

Sleeps all night without any noise aswell, in the morning he is very lively !!!! he always looking at us and loves playing with Smudge too.

Tail still has'nt stop wagging   :D

We are very suprised how easy its been, we thought it would be testing to start with but so far everything has been fine.

He does tend to mouth a little, which we are working on. We have a no biting rule and Smudge never bites or mouths, therefore I'm training Yogi to do the same. I'm sure its just a puppy thing and he will soon relise, although we still got the teething stages to come yet. he he.

We are delighted and happy with hows things are going and I think Smudge and Yogi are going to become the best of friends.

Yogi is lovely. Murphy is mostly liver apart from his white chest.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww Yogi is absolutely gorgeous  :luv:  :luv:  I love liver pups  :luv:

I have a 2 year olden golden show type called Hurley

I think that you may find the characteristics between show and working are quite different - there are lots of threads on it, although in the main you'll find that a worker is on the go far more than a cocker and will probably require mental stimulation as well as physical. My dog can play all day, and you could take him for a 3 hour walk - afterwards he would quite happily curl up and go to sleep whereas a worker, which is bred to work all day, will probably be asking for more  :005:  :005:

As you have a beagle - I doubt you'll have much problem with the energy levels - I think they can be pretty hyper too can't they?  ;) (despite your picture suggesting the contrary!)
